1) phaser effect to taste
2) saturator > HP filter in an Aux to taste

throw the hats into corpus and use the membrane presets and work wonders with that.

on the serious side, filer, EQ, phaser, flanger, corpus, also some free stuff like the SPL attacker or Flux's bittersweet, or even chorus etc. can spice things up, experiment with plugs that screw sound... also try combinations... i like mainly aggressive filters, EQ a dash of phaser and a dash of reverb...
also i thing ohm forces free fromage filter can manage pretty good hihat sounds...
best is really to experiment around, especially with combos...

Send it to a return channel, throw a gate in there, use the hat track to be the sidechain trigger, now wack all sorts of devices in there and adjust gate threshold to your fancy.
