8.1 = FAIL!

I went back to 8.0.9.

the log text shows a driver problem.

to narrow down, delete the preferences.cfg from here:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\"Your Username"\Application Data\Ableton\Live 8.1\Preferences\

Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden by default. Here is how to make it visible:
Windows XP/2000
1. Launch Explorer.
2. Select Tools/Folder Options/View.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders."

start Live 8.1 afterwards.

if that does not help, install the firebox driver again and try to raise the buffer size.

when the preference box is loaded the clicks pretty much vanish, then i close it and they appear.

very strange

also while im typing in firefox, with ableton running in the background, it also does not click.

im gonna leave a loop playing while i have dinner, see if it crashes.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR TRYING TO HELP, I FEEL ALOT BETTER THAT IM RECEIVING SUPPORT

The buffer size is set in the Presonus Control Panel.

You can get to it by clicking on Hardware Settings in Preferences

It has settings like 2mS, 4mS, ..., up to 40mS.

Also in the system tray there should be a little Presonus Icon. Right click and you'll get a menu with a CPU option. make sure you set it to High.

Are your crackles occurring when you move the mouse and interact with the Live GUI?

If so it might be the mouse drivers that are causing a problem. If it's a laptop try using the track pad instead.

btw, ive got presonus tech support now on the case aswell, shame, i feel a bit bad, it seems to be an optimization case more than a bug

there should be a sticky for this type of issue, keep the noobs at bay.

i just know how to tweak sounds and stuff, i aint no genius

they occur all the time audio is playing, unless i have the preference box open, or if i have live playing in the back ground while i type in firefox , basically, it goes away when the prefrence box is open or if i have something other than live in the main window's focus.

could this be a graphics card thing?

presonus seem to suggest that it may be my wireless, but ive just tested and it was worse this time.

If you've got your latency down as low as 2ms you'll be lucky to get crackle-free audio. Even my beast of a quad core can't keep that up for long!

Is it possible that you have shared graphics memory? It could mean that when Live is in view, with its meters bouncing around, the high-priority graphics refreshes are working your CPU that little bit harder, meaning it can't keep up with feeding audio at 2ms latency. When the relatively-static Firefox is in view, Live has less to do.

I'm getting this too, bigtime. I have a PreSonus Firebox. It works fine then begins to chug along and eventually the soundcard goes out of sync and tried to come back in but doesn't. It's completely unusable until I force quit Live, reboot my soundcard then reload Live, but even then it only lasts 10 minutes or so!

I've had this problem since the first version 8. I only have 16 channels on this particular project too! I have a 32 channel project in Logic that runs flawlessly! What gives?? I actually paid for Live since version 6. When 8 came out I upgraded to Suite then discovered these problems. I thought I would let the devs work on it until it was stable so I bought Logic in the mean time and learnt that instead, at least until the problems in Live were ironed out. Now I return to Live @ 8.1 and expected it to be a *little* better at least but no, much worse!

Brand new install of 8.1, brand new install of Snow Leopard. This is very unacceptable. Once/IF i manage to get through and finish this project in Live, I'll sell it off, it's honestly taking up too much precious production time and I can't handle the frustration any more.

Very annoyed.
