Re: Live's MIDI resolution is 96 ppqn.
Care to share your test methods?
Re: Live's MIDI resolution is 96 ppqn.
That's an interesting claim. How about posting two MP3 tracks that differ only in micro-timing and let the rest of us find out by experience how easy or hard it is to tell the difference between them?tomjordan wrote:Your ear can't tell, but it does highly color the feel of a sequence if you work with finer-grained timings.
Re: Live's MIDI resolution is 96 ppqn.
How do you know (I'd like to know, although I doubt it if you could tell the difference between 96ppqn and a higher resolution)
Re: Live's MIDI resolution is 96 ppqn.
reality check.
at 120 bpm 96 parts per quarter note is a resolution of 1.3 milliseconds.
I think it would be difficult to take the one midi file, put it into two different DAWs and get the exact same output. I write 'think' because I've never actually tried it.
this is an interesting find, not that I ever export midi files it's nice to know more about Live. it sucks, so do I, it's a great fit.
whether you can hear it or not it should be added to the long list of things to fix.
no word from an Abe on this, I hope they hear about this at least.
edit - why the hell did you make two threads on this?

I think your number is not correct.Tone Deft wrote:at 120 bpm 96 parts per quarter note is a resolution of 1.3 milliseconds.
At 120 bpm one quarter note is 0.5 seconds. Divided by 96 gives 5.2 milliseconds.

Re: Live's MIDI resolution is 96 ppqn.
I think he meant that using that calculation 128ppq is 3.9 ms making the timing difference 1.3 ms. I have to agree with the OP that this could make a slight diffference in the feel of the track - it'd be tough to notice but I think it could be recognisable...broc wrote:I think your number is not correct.Tone Deft wrote:at 120 bpm 96 parts per quarter note is a resolution of 1.3 milliseconds.

i'd bet the cumulative effect can be heard

I'm not out to convince anybody of anything, just offering some information.

I just edited the subject of the other thread to say "MIDI Export" about a 1/2 hour ago.Tone Deft wrote:why the hell did you make two threads on this?
I just checked the board, and I found this thread posted in my name, that begins with some seemingly random message that I posted from the other thread...
I did not repost this.. it's strange.. probably a glitch somewhere..
or someone's a genius and hacked my profile.. because I can edit the original post, which i did..
funny !

It's at the beginning of the other thread:timothyallan wrote:Care to share your test methods?

The whole story is there, and how we found out that it's only the MIDI file export that is at the lower resolution, NOT the Live resolution in general.
