instrument changes in midi files

I'm posting this here instead of emailing abe support because i'm an idiot and would rather be publicly humiliated than to bother the abletons with a totally stupid question.

Sometimes I grab a midi file from the internet just to play with a song and "Live" it to my own thing. Sometimes these files seem to have midi events such as instrument changes. That causes random things to happen with the vst that I'm using.... it selects a random (or at least wrong) patch every time I start the set.

There doesn't seem to be any way to filter these out, short of using another sequencer to edit the events out.

Since there's no way to encode those events into a native Ableton midi sequence, shouldn't non-Ableton events be removed when I import the clip?
