If Live 8 was released today at its current build...

Post by iflux » Sat Dec 12, 2009 4:15 am

Curious perspective...

Ableton release history redo

Live 8 finally comes out late as hell in the 4th quarter.

The 8.1 beta build which we have today is actually 8.0. We have bugs, BUT..
At this point, how far would you say we are from having the stability the community desires and having critical bugs squashed. I want to buy Live 8, but I am not buying it until I see some reassurance from the community here.

Try loading and playing the Acid Pauli free Live pack and tell me how you make out:

I've been using live 8 in a mission critical environment since it released and I've not experienced a single crash.

Quite simply the most stable program I've ever used.

I really find that hard to believe. They aren't making all of these points releases because the program is stable.

intense using
m4L with a 1,5Mo big patch with around 90 live.remote~, a lot of midi flow in and out
a LOT of instruments in my racks

it has NEVER crashed since the release version!

HP dv7 w/ 4Go RAM
i7 720QM
windows7 premium
M-AUDIO UNO midi usb interface
and the protodeck controller

well live crashes with me quite alot, but only either when i am shutting it down or loading a new set. At all other times its fine. I'm not sure whats causing that. Its annoying through as it requires a total reboot of the system to load live back up again, task manager wont end the program.

It is weird, i've never had these problems with live before, i'm thinking i might do a reinstall of windows. As i say when working on a set or whatever its been pretty rock solid, but i go to close it down and ERROR!!, or change set and i get C++ visual runtime error

i have not touched live in about 1 1/2 month two days ago i finally got around starting writing a new track... live 8.0.8 and it crashed every single time i closed any 3rd party plugin window.

not fun.

from what read about 8.1 i wait for 8.1.1 and hope it does not happen anymore.

On my set up, 8.0.9 seems to be the most stable. I have 8.1, but it slooooooooooowss down everything. I haven't tried the new 8.1xxxx betas yet.

3rd party is the problem.

max for live is not a 3rd party because it was designed for Live especially.
of course, my mind is a little bit disturbed to by the fact all is put on Ableton Live trust, but it works VERY fine!

I dropped my VSTi 3 years ago.
I only use them outside of Live in order to make sounds I use in Live Sampler inst.

just my 2 cents

you hear that over and over again... but it's not an excuse, if like in my case none of my 3rd party plugs changed since i moved from L6 to L8 and they all worked trouble free before in L6, respectively they all work trouble free in all other AU/VST hosts on my machine...
