I have so many softsynths and now I want Largo....

Post by mholloway » Wed Dec 30, 2009 2:00 am

...can you talk me out of it? I got some xmas cash, and this thing is pretty much the most expensive non-sample based soft-synth on the market, afaik. BUT, they just updated it to v 1.5 which seems to have done it a lot of good....

Of the synths I already own, Largo seems most similar to NI's Massive -- anybody here have both and care to comment? Is that "waldorf sound" (mostly their filters, it seems...) worth the premium price? Or is this just a standard trance-machine with big-league name stuck on it? (I doubt it, but...)

interested in thoughts of those who own it, thoughts of how it compares to Massive, thoughts of why it costs so darn much.....

my fav synths in my extensive collection are Massive, Alchemy and both Korg Legacy collections (oh and also all the G-force emulations...)....wondering if this will be my next "big gun" synth.

and yeah I know I should check out the demo, doing so now, just want to hear some discussion along with my own fiddling.

thanks!

go for hybrid digital / analogues hardware synths, like the evolver, mfb's synths... that is soooooo much more inspiring and straight sounding IMHO

sorry but nope! I don't want hardware, unless someone gave me a moog voyager ;). hardware fucks up my workflow and costs too much. I'm a midi-controller + softsynths guy.

Buy Largo.

A: It is not the most expensive, non sample based synth on the market. Not by a long shot. There are several non romplers, non samplers more expensive.

B: You sound like you totally want it.

C: It is bad ass. I wish I could demo it again, I might buy it before 2010 is out. I demo'd it at 1.0. 1.5 looks awesome.

Doesn't it require a dongle? if that's the case, it's my only decent argument against Largo.
That and it's more expensive than Zebra or ACE. I like the Waldorf sound, and will eventually buy this.
Alchemy is first in line once I get money rolling in though.
I like the interface too, looks like all the good parts of Logic synth GUIs.

I have Largo and along with Zebra it's probably my favorite softsynth. Well worth the money imho! Waldorf recommends to use a dongle (Syncrosoft), but you can also just use the e-licenser. The problem with that is that if your HD crashes or whatever, you will have to contact Waldorf and prove that you purchased it to get a new activation code.

Thanks,
Ken

I love Largo... made a test song using only Largo presets;

but haven't bought it yet due to cashing out on the NI Synthsgiving synths.. but the Largo is my next buy for sure
