Re: I wish Live was MAC ONLY!
I'd settle for a kick ass 8.2 release for everyone.

Re: I wish Live was MAC ONLY!
Wow? and everybody loves Lenova from what I've read.3dot... wrote: ...before this turns to be a MacVsPC ...
thanks for the help man.. I've done all that..
uninstalled reinstalled live/vsts deleted prefences.cfg...
short of changing a computer...or making a clean install
thing is I have 2 different systems...both pretty reliable
laptop : Lenovo /Core2Duo /4gb ram /NvidiaGraphics /RME MultifaceII
desktop: Asus p5q-deluxe /IntelQ9550 /8gb ram /ATI Radeon4850 /MOTU 24i/o
each acts up a bit different...
but both are buggy...
I was just wondering if there is any "holy grail" of a computer setup that is guaranteed to work in normal conditions...
(I don't tend to push the limits of the CPU in my sets..
well..at least not the ones intended to play live)
your advice is great though ..thanks.
Shit, I guess it's 8 then? How is Renoise acting on your system? Renoise isn't as complicated MIDI controller wise from what I see, but if it's crash free then it's definitely Live. The only other option is some MIDI or audio driver not entirely uninstalling from your set up?
but it would have to be something that you installed on both machines.
Even on Mac it's important to know where to look for Extensions (low level near kernal drivers basically) cause not every uninstaller removes all of a program. Logitech wrote a POS driver/extension for their laptop mouse that was killing my USB controllers big time, and not everything was gone from their "uninstaller". I think people forget you don't HAVE to use Mac applications on Macs, there are substitutes for iTunes, and programs to override the restrictions etc. but that's an unrelated subject.
I'm also hoping for a rock solid 8.2. I would like to use group tracks! Besides I feel like a cheating housewife not having 8 yet.

Baaaah, Im not so happy with my mac recently. A lot of colors and gamma problems with quicktime and Final Cut Pro. You really try hard to deliver an accurate product for your client and quicktime is screwing up all the way. I cant believe ProRes, the "PRO" codec from Apple is toning all my colors down and there is absolutly no support from Apple.
Yesterday, while searching solutions I found this: http://derek-lerner.com/blog/?p=1707
See the conclusion at the bottom of the article.
I spent so much energy on that in the last week... pffffff.
Im sorry to say but being a pro on mac is getting more and more difficult.
Huuu... we were talking about music production?.. ho sorry, forget it.

If everyone got a Mac the world would have a chronic shortage of turtle neck sweaters and Brylcreem
Renoise works well on both PC and Linux for me and is also available on Mac. Admittedly, it's a different type of program, and less complex but then again at 49 euros it's also a lot cheaper ...

Re: I wish Live was MAC ONLY!
indeed. and, as live runs better on my pcs than most of the macs of friends i know, i don't really think getting a mac helps much (and seeing the tons of support issues in this forum, it looks like it's common).3dot... wrote:that's my gripe with them as well..davepermen wrote: who can live with the restrictions apple gives to him, he has great fun with apple, then. i can't, and thus, i would hate having to use them.
don't like my ipod for the same reason...
but
I want to make music...so screw customization...
if it's tested and works... I'll even get a mac..
although I would prefer a PC..(only cuz I'm very used to it..
and comfortable with it..)
it's just a tool...so no need to fight..
it would, on the other hand, restrict much of the gains i have from my pc/laptop.
mac users buy themselves into that dream that they bought the right thing that "just works". reality would teach them, it's just another pc, and with just as many issues.
but as there are much more hw choises in the pc world, one can buy tons of crap which doesn't work well together. that's why, for stuff i rely on, i only buy corporate equipment. macbooks are, from the quality, not really consumer products, but more like corporate product. that's why, for the consumer, they look like high end, big quality, etc.
elitebooks from hp deliver about the same quality. and i'm sure you find that quality from every brand around.

Doesn't really fit the profile.
Maybe you should go back to PC. (With an i7 )
Then you could probably afford a hair transplant and a nice selection of turtle neck sweaters to go.
