PLEASE....a CLOCK!

Post by PadraigO » Thu Nov 05, 2009 11:22 pm

Most other DAWs seem to take the idea of a visual time clock seriously and address it with a clock/and bar counter etc. this is obviously not a priority for Ableton. A time ruler simply doesn't cut it lads. I want to be an exclusive Ableton user, but I have to use either Logic or PT for the ease re: these types of jobs (which is most of them).

You may say , "there isn't enough space in the control bar..." Why not come up with a simple clock that one can drag and drop and it can clock itself can float. If not that...place it somewhere where it would not be obtrusive.

For those of us need to sync sound to visuals too, this would be much welcomed and basically dead easy for you programers to write.

Thank You.

I must say I can't believe this isn't an included feature of Live 8. Am I just missing it? If so please point it out. Nearly fifteen years ago I was using Opcode's Studio Vision Pro version 4... and even it included a multi-time transport window, showing both bars & beats and clock time. A clock is a must!

It would be nice to have one. I never thought it was a issue. After reading this I can picture it being a problem for some. Ableton just goes great for how I use it. It would be a nice addition.

it NEEDS to happen. it's an easy addition and the ruler (again) makes the DAW seem amateur/it was a 2nd thought or 5th for that matter.

PLEASE ABLETON ....hear us!!!!!!!!

woaa calm down dude. It was only a brief comical aside.
Ableton tend not to respond to these threads, but each thread is tracked and put into their development list in order of their perceived priority.
I do agree myself, a SMPTE clock would indeed be appreciated, especially for those working with video etc. I actually made a thread about it myself a few months back.
However, in the space between me thinking I needed a HH/MM/SS/MSMS clock and now Ive found myself forget more and more about it to the point of not being bothered whether a SPMTE clock comes into development. :)

Also, as I stated in my thread time ago, the logical place for a clock would be up at the top where the main bars/beats counter is. Either in prefernces or by rightclicking on the counter would you be able to switch between bars/beats and hh/mm/ss/msms - thus requiring no floating window.
