Music to wake up by

Post by oblique strategies » Tue Jan 19, 2010 5:32 am

Do you ever use music to wake you up, rather than an alarm? Depending on the music it can be a much gentler experience.

I have often used:
Cocteau Twins: Victorialand: Lazy Calm, followed by the rest of the tracks = perfection

Let's me drift into consciousness, very similar to drifting out of consciousness when I go to sleep.

Boregore-Gorestep.

wake up and punch life in the dick, then violate his girlfriend with a 9 iron and a buffalo. Live or stuffed, preferably stuffed.

i find cocteau twins is too easy to dream through.
it's nice to have a mix of soft and energy to get you going.
like fuck buttons, explosions in the sky, etc
although smooth dnb has given me the best results over time

I like some Naked City, it's the only music I couldn't possibly hear in my dreams :)

I always use the classical radio station...usually very nice to wake up to. Occasionally though some sadist a-hole puts on Penderecki on Sunday morning at 7:30am....just about the most horrifying experience to wake up to those shrieking violins!!

I play some classical at a low volume throughout the night using the NPR app for the i-phone. The station I use is WXXI Classical 91.5, Rochester NY. Then I use the bells alarm setting to wake up.

This is only because I live in the city, and need to distract myself from city sounds at night. Sometimes a fan on medium speed does the trick too. That, and 50mg of HCI.

I went to sleep to the NASA Symphony of the Planets discs for several years....awesome deep space ambient!

Looks like they are insanely priced now that they are out of print...I picked up the 5-disc set for $30 back in the day.

They took electromagnetic readings from the Voyager spacecraft and converted to acoustic frequencies....awesome!!

Iggy Pop or Velvet Underground. These are the two songs I love to wake up to:

Iggy Pop and Debbie Harry - Well, Did You Evah

Velvet Underground - I´m Waiting For The Man
