Revisiting Krautrock
Revisiting Krautrock
These guys sure did freak out with their Kosmische music. I like the whole era of history in Germany at the time.
Neu!, Guru Guru, Harmonia, La Dusseldorf, Tangerine Dream, Popol Vuh, Agitation Free, and of course Can and Amon Duul I and II. Leading up to Kraftwerk of course.
That first Neu! album is unreal , fuck swing, straight is what it's all about: check
HalloGallo - Neu! on the tube, no links from worky.
I am also loving a lot, Popol Vuh - Einsjager und Siebenjager.
Insane hippy shit but great nonetheless!

I'm with you, I love krautrock. It's amazing how timeless some of those records sound now, especially the Neu! and Harmonia discs, they were really forward thinking, and I could easily pick one up now and assume it was contemporary. Good stuff...

Re: Revisiting Krautrock
Popol Vuh made some of my favorite music ever: the soundtracks to Werner Herzog movies:
Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Nosferatu the Vampyre
Heart of Glass
Even Dwarfs Started Small
The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser
Fitzcarraldo
Cobra Verde
The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner

this is also one of my personal classics, I love that record.
in a way it's sort of proto-techno, jamming on one chord, steady repetitive beat, the mixing engineer is "playing" the console. amazing really.

It is a great track, just love the 'motorik' riddim.
Oblique...I didn't know that with the Werner Herzog movies and Popol Vuh, must check those.

You will love it. Wonderful. It's some of the most perfect meshing of music & cinema I've ever experienced. Hypnotizes you & puts you into a dream...UKRuss wrote: Oblique...I didn't know that with the Werner Herzog movies and Popol Vuh, must check those.

Yeah, the movies are great to begin with but Popol Vuh really adds a significant amount to the experience. Herzog is pretty awesome in general, though. And German, so he fits right in with the krautrock thread I suppose...

jazz is a woman's tongue in your mouth
cool, licking you slowly, revolving around
inside your cheeks.
letting you know who's come to visit.
