Sound Art / Installations

Post by Beatport » Thu Jan 28, 2010 2:45 am

Writing a paper on art and technology with an emphasis on sound/audio.

Any one have any good links to inspiring, original sound installations and real-time/performance sound art? Other than monolake :?

Looking for modern things involving abstract sonic experiments, sensors, interactivity, multmedia etc.

danke!

Tim Exile. Check Native instruments site for a lovely video of him explaining his set up.

You should check Thilges 3, amazing austrian trio/duo which works with doepfer modular synthesizers. They do it in realtime in public spaces and they are not amazing just because of their unique and mind blowing sound (always performed in quadrophonic space ) but also because of their complex sound art installations (check the ones with crickets processed with doepfer, or the one called rosner).

Check their work, videos and music
http://www.thilges.at/

thats something to write about.

here's a project that i'm involved in. it's more rave-centric than anything else right now but we hope to develop it into more academic/arts areas. 360º projections and (hopefully) ambisonic surround stage. One of the aims is to make it interactive in various ways and produce full scale performance pieces that perfectly marry the audio with the visuals.
