First piece with the new Ableton Live Looper..

Post by Reyn Ouwehand » Tue Jan 26, 2010 2:52 am

I use to use Gibson Echoplexes for my looping but switched recently to Ableton's looper.

Here's the first piece I did with it:

PS: And I was wondering, any of you also experiencing a timing difference between the audio and midi? Maybe it's because I'm using 8 loopers in one session. Also get these annoying 'out of memory' error. Could be the same cause though I have plenty of Ram in my MacBook.

Finally, a TALENTED MUSCIAN that can actually play. A fantastic use of the looper and pretty damn good song. All without a pre-sampled loop. How refreshing. Stand up and take a bow Reyn. Thanks for sharing.

very nice.

would be interesting to hear how you have configured what you are stomping on under the table and how it is configured with Live.

Well, I use the Mackie Onyx as my sound interface. It has Firewire out and I just click it in my laptop and Ableton is ready to go. Then I have 8 different loopers inside the session: 2 for the keys, 1 for the bass, 1 for the drums (I make a submix of the 3 mics inside Ableton), 3 for guitars (to spread em nicely to get this nice wall of sound) and 3 for the vocals.

I use this Gordius Big Little Giant (http://www.gordius.be/) as my MIDI pedal board to remotely trigger Ableton. It's fully programmable and a very powerful machine. Really anything you can think of. There's an extra 2 MIDI outputs on it to hook up a Behringer 1010 pedal which I use to record/sample/loop the guitars and bass, since I'm standing up and are more away from the Little Giant. And I use an old Alesis D4 for triggering the drums.

That's it really.. Nothing special really..

Here are two Björk loops I did prior using Ableton as the main looper and was still using Gibson's Echoplex:

Also people still seem to like one of my first loops called "Green Beret", based on an old C64 game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8UBY8Yj9c0

And you can check my "Reyn vs ..." website for more loops: http://www.reyn.vs.reyn.net

Other than the same loop played over what made this performance special was the evolving melody and your live performance skills which is great to see :-)

Love the gradual build ups, the multi-instrumental performances-parts and then the gradual build-down to the end. Superb!

Enjoyed listening and watching! Kudos to you! Excellent work. Very well done :-)
