PA Speakers

Post by McQ714 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:05 pm

Anyone have any suggestions for speakers for a indoors house gig? going up to the mountains at the end of the month and don't really want to take my monitors as they don't have grills. i was thinking about picking up a small PA system... don't need massive 12" speakers. i was thinking something smaller than 8" woofers would be ideal. if i had the money i'd throw it down on the genelec 8030s i've been wanting but don't wanna put them on credit. am i better off just getting a hard case and stuffing my alesis 820s in it for transport? seems like a pain in the ass.

the yamaha msp 5 are decent and cheap, i mean i don't like 'em much but they deliver... rugged built and cheap.

or some jbl control 5's are as well OK for that purpose... we call them "bruellwuerfel" that means "screaming dices"
they can get pretty loud for the size and don't break the bank either.

^ i was checking out those K8s yesterday and actually got to hear the K12s last night at my friend's gig. they sound great and have some great options. i think it's a little more than i want to spend, though.

and as for the Control 5s, i'm kind of kicking myself right now but i just sold my un-used power amp back to sam ash for store credit.

You see and hear these everywhere and they are surprisingly decent and inexpensive.

I checked it out, and all of the PA speakers with under 12" woofers were more expensive than the starting prices for active 12" (like these Behringerz):

You could go to a thrift store and spend $50 on an old stereo system. Sometimes they have powerful amps and those big ass funky floor speakers.
