You must practice until the difficult becomes easy, and then practice until the easy becomes beautiful.

No it was one of the surviving members. I actually amn't sure which one, although I'd like to track him down to thank him as those words have helped me a lot.

At the time I didn't know the background of the band, thought he was just a cool musician - I think I was around 12 and approached him at a wedding gig to give props + express my interest.

When I found out some time later what had happened his bandmates the words took on a new meaning...

Hmm hope I didn't bring the tone down :D

I thought of another one I love:
Richard D. James wrote:We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams
For ages I thought that was Aphex Twin, then I read it was from Willy Wonka. But apparently it's really old - originally by some guy called Arthur O'Shaughnessy:
Arthur O'Shaughnessy wrote: We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;—
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.
