But for those who absolutely must have a hardwired midi solution, this sounds like an option:

Ummm... I think it requires M4L or Max of some sort for sure. Or am I missing something about how it works?

I don't understand why the author makes a big deal about it not using OSC... seems kind of ridiculous to me. I guess he's using a TCP stack instead of UDP??? Whatever.

Well yeah, it does require that you're using Max/MSP. I would think the point about not requiring OSC in the context of using it with Live is that you don't need another software like OSCulator in between the app you're using and Live.

Oh, OK. I haven't delved into Max 4 Live yet... I assumed it would fill this roll for you.

Yeah, there's already people making M4L solutions that will work on the iPad:
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=208
but M4L costs $300 and I can't afford it. Plus, I'm saving up for the iPad.

Max standalone on the other hand has a free runtime so that's why I'm more excited about the iphone bridge thing and similar solutions that will let me run max monome apps and the like on the iPad.

it seems like all we would need is MIDI over blue tooth and jazzmutant type GUI to control Live? Or someone could create a GUI that looks like like but it's only a MIDI controller running over bluetooth.

I wouldn't run Live on a iPad, not until they put enough power and a pro audio card in it.

uuuhhhh when iturn on my wifi on my MBP my audio gets f@cked up and clicks, drop outs and also ableton is much running much slower. So i don,t think ipad as a controller on a MBP is any good.

Nah. Sounds more like a problem with your own setup. People are already performing live just fine over wifi with touchosc. Seeing as most people will be in close proximity to the wifi connection from your laptop, there shouldn't be any problem.

The Max/iphone bridge app mentioned above says: "Communication between the apps does not rely on OpenSoundControl but in stead uses a straight forward communication socket, which offers a reliable connection."

I have a MBP too but I've never had that problem and my airport connection is always on. To connect the iphone/ipad, you just have to create an ad-hoc network.

There's a really old problem with airport and audio - see: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=88815 - but that was fixed by Apple ages ago. What version of OS X are you running?
