I just bought a Leopard retail install for my niece on ebay for $150 + S&H. Not a lot of resources for this out there. We can thank Apple for not supporting it's own hardware...

i'm in the european union. so do you know any where can I get the upgrade ?

ebay seems like a good suggestion, found some listings in canada... I hope I can get an operational ebay account open in time.

On a side note, it's really annoying when software developers remove the last mature revision of their software from the shelves purely to push their new less mature stuff. Leopard & Snow Leopard should be available simultaneously IMO, at least they shouldn't drop leopard from their store until snow leopard has matured and it's replacement comes out.

'PLUGGO' for example works on leopard but since cycling74 dropped it for M4L they don't guarantee it will function on later versions of OSX. and on the other hand, 2caudio have dropped 'Aether' support for osx 10.4 - which is madness. They started off supporting it, sold a load of licenses, and now it's only version 1.0.0 that works on OSX10.4 with Aether 1.5 on the horizon. The 1.0.1 bugfix for Aether doesn't even work on OSX10.4... Smooth move.

I can't wait for the EU to bring in those consumer protection laws re:software. Apple, of course, are one of the loudest opponents.

What compounds this issue & makes it particularly heinous is that Snow Leopard won't even run on a computer that does not have an intel processor. This leaves a LOT of people who still have Apple's PPC computers scrambling to buy from potentially disreputable sources when they want to upgrade their PPC to Leopard.

If Apple cared about it's customers then it would make Leopard available directly from them. Frankly, it's inexcusable.

agreed.

Another side note:
Ableton are guilty of the same form of ultra capitalism. They've even conceded with the 'Quality' THREAD (as opposed to an email/newsletter - which would be a more genuine apology imo. Focusing on forum participants says, to me at least, they're only concerned about those who do the talking and any potential customers who might do the listening)

If they acknowledge the fact the current release isn't up to par, why then isn't Live 7 also on the shelves if the (new) customer's satisfaction is their main concern ?

Other than open source developers, I say bring it on ASAP.

Apple are the kings of ignoring problems. At least until they find a fix -then they can acknowledge the problem, announce that they have a fix, & make a pathetic attempt to look like heroes!

Disreputable practice.

wow, getting simple information out of you is like pulling teeth.

I'll try ringing the berlin apple store tomorrow. Although I don't see why they'd stock the leopard upgrade while no other apple store I've been to does, nor apple's own online store. But hey, you wouldn't just be talking shit so I'll try them.

if it's not the apple store you have in mind...
what's the name of the store, and what street is it on?

^^^ sorry, but i see leopard upgrade CDs in every single store where they sell any kind of apple computers, in any media markt, saturn, and other apple dealers in town, it is super easy to go into a shop and buy the cd, at least in berlin it's not a big deal at all.

and i don't think that it is different anywhere else, a shop sells apple computers, it will sell SL upgrade CDs.

p.s. cyberstore in friedrichsstrasse (on the kreuzberg end, near u-bahn kochstrasse) is a fairly good place for apple and external HDs (they have usually some good deals going and have a lot of stuff in stock) if you are based in berlin.

i bought mine in saturn, though.

p.s. i can see that people reacting funny, the way you asked is like you want to take the piss out of people, it sounds like asking where can i buy a bottle of coca cola in the EU... you know what i mean?

Just to make it very clear here, you do know I'm talking about a Leopard OSX 10.5 upgrade here, and NOT Snow Leopard 10.6 .... right ?
At any rate, it's not available in the apple stores in my country, or from apple directly via their web-store. So asking (european) forumites if it's available in their locality, and where, really isn't as crazy as you make it out to be. It's pretty much a forum's raison d'être

Thanks I'll try them

No I don't know what you mean. Oblique Strategies knows what I'm talking about, did you read his posts ? He had to use ebay. Only person who seems to be taking the piss here is Swish asking redundant questions, and not giving any useful info.

this would have been a good answer to a simple question:

Ya, it's available in the berlin apple store
or
Ya, it's available in cyberstore in friedrichsstrasse (on the kreuzberg end, near u-bahn kochstrasse)

Jesus wept.
