Better color coding on tracks

Post by mikemc » Tue Feb 16, 2010 6:02 pm

Right now, you can change the color of the header on the track, and you can change the color of clips.

It would be nice if clips in a track whose header color had been changed could inherit the color of the header.

If the track's header color had not been changed, then the global default clip color would be applied.

The behavior would controlled by a 'look and feel' on/off selection in the prefs, to the effect of "Clips inherit track header's color".

You would still be able to alter the individual clip color case by case, of course. If the default was turned off in the prefs, already colored clips would not revert to default, but subsequent clips added to the track should logically be colored using the global default.

If the behavior is activated and track header color changes, then the change is also applied to the clips.

Also, if that whole thing is a bit much to ask, if just the *height* of the header could be changed, that might be nice.

This idea is to permit a way to easily select between blocks of color when moving horizontally thru a set with a lot of tracks. It would also allow a way to indicate track contents using color when tracks are sized to be very narrow.

Love,
Mike

While we're at it, what about the option to put a track name or header down next to the mixer controls, you know, like where the scribble strip or lekky tape would be on a real mixer.
