Budget Planning 2010

Post by evilaci » Thu Feb 18, 2010 7:56 pm

Hello All!

I´m doing right now my audio budget planing for 2010. Plus priority ranking!
And as everything is built around Live i wanted to know what we can coarse expect this year from Ableton.
Coarse! But more detailed than "exciting things".... and Apple Marketing....
But on the other hand of course no detailed dates.
I just want to avoid to buy stuff that could be one month later solved via a futher new Ableton Controller for instance.
This is no joke!
I do this like a company is doing. :!:

- Upgrade to Komplete 6
- C & V from Toontrack
- Abeleton Controller
- Celemony DNA stuff
- Maybe Amplitube 3
- 88 keyboard
- Movement to MBP
- Fryette Memphis Amp or Laboga (depending on Music Fair FFM 2010)

Thanks!

Good thread :)

Last year was expensive

for 2010 I would say

1.New monitors or a really expensive headphone amp
2.Live 9
3.i7 iMac (If i wanted to be silly)

I honestly dont want for more unless something super shiny and new pops up.

finish off a few more tracks an ready myself for playing live! Hopefully get signed on the way. I'm done spending money, got my APC40 etc.... unless Ableton9 is super unreal I will be sticking with 8. I doubt that 9 is going to get released this year either. 8O

^ you really should match speakers and subs... they are kind of built to complement each other. i just had a listen to the jbl 2325 monitors yesterday and since i can't afford the genelec 8030s and i was sick of my m-audio bx5s, i decided to go with the jbl 2325s for now. i'll probably get the sub in a couple of months. and maybe the 2328s too unless i get a huge tax return and don't feel like using it to pay off my debt, in which case i'll probably buy the genelec 8030s and 7050b sub package.

but if you plan on getting those monitors, i would definitely get the jbl 4312 sub.

Thanks for the tip. I really hadn't put much thought into matching the sub. But I guess it makes sense.

Those 2325's are definitely appealing with the lower price tag but I'm afraid they wouldn't suffice. I'd be interested to hear the two sets apart from each other and listen to the difference to see if the extra $$ is worth it or not.

i wanted to get something in between my 5" bx5s and my 8" alesis 820s but i heard the jbl 2325s set up in guitar center with no sub on a serato itch and VCI300 demo and they put out some nice clean bass. i don't mind saving a grand for now. and now i have some bx5s for my other non-audio computer. or maybe i'll give em to a friend of mine who doesn't have monitors to mix on.

on the sub issue.. i got one a few years back since I only had 6 inch woofers (mackie 624's) and after hindsight, i should have just avoided the sub and just got some decent monitors with a extended low freq range. sub placement was just a hassle and it took alot of panels/traps to tame the sub. but i agree, if you are going to get one, get a matching sub. but if you can avoid the sub, just save up and get some bigger monitors, atleast 8's that go down to 40hz.... but's that's my experience with my sub.. you might have better luck..

Weird, was just drawing up my budget for the year :)

1. New MBP or 27" iMac. Currently leaning towards the MBP, but waiting to see what the revision has in store before I decide.
2. Upgrade the studio monitors to Barefoot mm35's. They just started shipping the pre-orders though, so I have some time on this one.
3. Elektron Monomachine. Been on my list for years now, wonder if this is the year I actually do it?
4. New computer monitor if I stick with the MBP. Would love to replace my aging Dell 20" LCD with a 24".

New Zealand actually. I will design/build my own custom desk for working while standing up. Thanks for the offer anyway.
