hmmm, first promo i've seen for that forward fest, and i'm on the 88 mailing list...
dc is truly a bizarre place when it comes to promo and crowds.
so many people, yet so damn fickle, make it tough to promote a show.
but i'm in the minority that thinks twitter is for twats....
guess my age is showing...

oh, duh,
we should see if we can do something at the fridge:
http://www.thefridgedc.com/
it's a small art gallery which does some interesting series of shows called the dinner party...
you could cram 150 in there, great for projections since it's white.
the room sounds good, some powered speakers on stands and a sub can hold it down reasonably,
so it's low overhead on the gear (they have a couple powered cabs but no proper pa)
it'd be ideal for a small 4.1 surround rig.
a bit off the beaten path though, but a cool room nonetheless (with a bar)

This sounds good, I've noticed they've had a few electronic events there in the past little while. Let me know if there is something I can do to help this happen. I've got a couple of projectors, btw, and a small sound reinforcement system.
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.

Hey, I'm down to meet up. I'm fairly new to Ableton and producing tracks, since I mostly perform opera and jazz singing.

What about trying to have a night at Sonic Circuits? http://dc-soniccircuits.org/
They host experimental acts and usually set up at Pyramid Atlantic in Silver Spring.

Anyone going to the Forward Festival?

gonna throw down a set at bossa tonight...
2 turntablists, 1 analog electronics/ sequencer guy, 1 amazing drummer, electric upright bass, ableton.
breaks/ improv for the electric possible series:
http://www.panicresearch.com/electric_poss.html
jeff who runs it is really great, i suggest checking out the series.
playing at pyramid atlantic with lost civilizations for the sonic circuits music series, another local one worth checking out:

the forward festival looks fun, 88 is definitely on the dj/ clubby side of things, whereas the other two mentioned are where you will
find people doing the crazy shit and taking it out.
nice to have some options.
u street music hall will be open soon and that place is very promising...

Too late, I would've liked to check out the show at Bossa. Any others ones like that coming up?
Might come check you out at Pyramid Atlantic if I'm not working.

If anyone else is also doing similar shows - please post (in advance if possible)!

My goal: meet live users, compare tips, ideas, give demos, and organize informal gigs. In order to form a DC electronic music movement. Develop a DC electronic music scene with Live and VST freeware addons. This would incorporate upcoming and semi-pro musicians and software composers plus computer-music folks with basic expertise in live

My goal- to find a reliable spot for meetings every 2 weeks on Saturday or Sunday (daytime), or maybe even weeknights where we would have the whole room /club and could play at realistic volume.

I prefer electronic rock, dubspot, euopean, electonica, electronic ambient plus hardware and software demos.I do like hip-hop club music but without the [cars/money/HOS /sex/gangstas] vocals.

We need dedicated, active participants of all ages, with laptop, ableton licensed lite or full versions. we will provide a pa system and meeting location. We may seek donations of under $10 per person, or equivalanet in food and dringks to use a club or community center off hours in a central area of DC (Adams mogan, etc).

If you want to start, get in touch with me at hib@ieee.org
Once I have at least 4 users of live with some experience I will book a meeting place. I have locations identified.
