Just try to get a recording with not too much "room" on it and you can go anywhere from there.H20nly wrote:Cool. I have some shakers, bongos and what not, always kinda scarred to use them dry because I think the audio will not sound so good given the recording conditions... but I think it may be better than "fake" which is what you get from a lot of samples/libraries. I think I'll give it try
One of my fav tricks is to get into a groove, hit record, find the best bit, loop, quantize/fix audio if really necessary, then apply a chain of Beat Repeat > LFO-swept bandpass Autofilter > Beat Repeat... Hours of fun for the whole family ensue.
Self-pimpage: check out track 2 on my FaceTube player "Lali" thats just me and my basket of percussion toys thru the above sort of chain. (sounds even nicer at full res...)

My plan is to first get an electric, the most expensive of the triad, and then get a bass and then acoustic. I wish I was a better keyboard player as well but you still don't get the grooving out feeling you get with stringed instruments IMO.

I have 5 guitars, and getting a bass was the best thing I ever did. If you want funk it is the only way. You can program machine rigid soulless grinding beats to your hearts content, but as soon as you stick that bass on it it gets the funk
Get the bass first.

Pretty much rave reviews across the board, the 5'6" frame God blessed me with isn't exactly calibrated for manly basses, and us electronica types like our shit compact.
I've had some normal basses before, although nothing to write home about as far as quality, but no real complaints either. But along with the normal size bass making me look like a midget I also have some issues with the fret spacing with my less than long fingers. If the spacing of the frets on this thing is more like a guitar then that's going to kick some serious ass as far as I'm concerned. There's also a lot of compliments on the sound quality but of course not from everyone because there never is.alex.the.forge wrote:might be cool...or it might whet your appetite to make you want a bigger onebeats me wrote:Hm. I have a $400AUD Cort with active pickups - it's really surprisingly good. Nice to play and actually sounds good before I even put it through guitar rig or any other fx
I think the active pickups def. make a difference in the world of audio interfaces and cheap pre-amps
you tried changing the track delay ?beats me wrote: I think another contributing factor to my lack of funkiness is I get shit MIDI to audio latency with my Firebox so it's hard enough for me to try to play or tap out something in straight time much less anything with a groove. I'm always playing things as close as I can get them and then manually adjusting things with the mouse, the least funky way of producing ever.
Yeah, I really need to suss the situation out. In most cases I'm doing it on a song by song basis depending on what I have going on in the song and balancing things out between MIDI latency and audio glitches and drop outs. I should probably get a better audio interface too but that's a really unsexy expensive purchase. If hardware and software developers would knock it the fuck off with their constant new releases for the next 6 months then this might happen.alex.the.forge wrote:you tried changing the track delay ?beats me wrote: I think another contributing factor to my lack of funkiness is I get shit MIDI to audio latency with my Firebox so it's hard enough for me to try to play or tap out something in straight time much less anything with a groove. you should be fine with your firebox... you wouldn't need to adjust the track delay by that much either reallybeats me wrote:Yeah, I really need to suss the situation out. I'll soon be trying out Logic on a more extensive level than I have in the past. If I get better latency with that with less farting around with adjustments then I think I know what to blame here.alex.the.forge wrote:you should be fine with your firebox... you wouldn't need to adjust the track delay by that much either really
