Is Windows XP Obsolete?

Post by BoxDJ » Sun Mar 21, 2010 7:05 am

Are people trying to phase out Windows XP? Do you think XP is almost gone? I'm still using XP on my desktop but on my laptop I have Windows 7. XP has been around for a very long time now and I know there are a lot of users still out there.

My soundcard dosn't work with W7 so I'm sticking with XP for music and Ubuntu for the internet.

I use 7 for work (I'm a .net developer) and it's lovely, but for audio I'm sticking with XP. Rock solid.

Yes, same here. My laptop is running fine with XP - not broke, not going to fix it.

When I upgrade to a new machine, (next year?), I assume it will have Win 7 pre installed.

Audio DAW - XP
My laptop - XP
Wife's laptop - XP
family room HTPC - XP (MCE2005)
Theater Room HTPC - XP (MCE2005)
kids computer in playroom - XP

Aside from the kid's computer (built out of old leftover parts) and the 2 laptops, all other computers had not been updated and left untweaked because they run fine for it's specific needs and are rock stable. I will not touch the WindowsME-like Vista. Windows 7? I'll probably go Mac based by then.

My fca202 from behringer only works on Xp, can't even install bugged drivers on win7

Hopefully it's driver free for mac users... one day I'll have a macbook but saving money for it

So No! Xp is not obsolete... why changing when it runs fine

Live is not a 64 bit application yet, UAD drivers still messy so I am waiting. The ONLY reason I want to go Windows 7 is to be able to use more RAM, 2GB is becoming pathetic fast (2GB doesn't work well with UAD cards, they sit in the same addressing space).

That's all. I'll wait.

Oh yeah W7 is FUGLY but so is XP

XP isn't obsolete yet, and won't be for some time, but when it is, it will be more out of Microsoft's own efforts than because of disgruntled users.

Take the new hard drive sectors for example... Microsoft will probably lead the march on making that happen:

http://www.pcmech.com/article/4k-sector ... re-coming/ <-- dunno about this site, but the article illustrates the point.

don't expect a work around out of Redmond.

Agree with you H20nly, the main reason that pushes users to upgrade.
this remember me the day I discovered my soundblaster was not broken.
I have installed it on my newer motherboard and it was really bad recognized.
Several months later, I replugged it in a rebuilt pc I did with my previous motherboard and the old parts___ directly recognized, installed and working.
If you intend on sticking with XP, 2000, an older Mac or a pre-2009 Linux kernel for a few more years, it’s in your best interest to buy a few spare HDDs now.
I know what to do
