Don't get Transient Loop Mode

I'm on Chapter 9 with the Live 8 manual and I really don't get these 3 options. When do you use them?

Well I just figured out that on the Loop Off setting, you can shorten up the beats with a less than %100 setting on the "Transient, 1/8, 1/16" settings. But I didn't notice any change with any of the other settings. I was testing a breakbeat loop.
