Ableton Instruments Midi Chart. Is there oneJust like VST's?

Post by selthym » Sun Mar 28, 2010 8:00 am

I should know this after many years using Live as my only sequencer.

Do Ableton Instruments like Analogue and Operator have a midi implemention like many VST's?

I have a novation remote zero and only just today discovered that when using the Bass Station Preset with the Bass Station vst, The midi cc's are recorded in session view when recording a clip. If the Ableton Instruments have this, I can then create a template that will send cc's, rather than instant mappings, and these will be recorded in session view.

If the answer is no, what is the easiest way to record in arrangement view and copy all the automation envelopes over to session view?

They don't have an implementation chart unfortunately and the best way to copy the envelopes is still copy/paste.

well as you should gather the answer is no..live devices aren't like vsts...
and there's a problem with transferring envelopes from arrangement to session
because the envelopes in arr are absolute ..while the envelopes in session are relative to the current value(set in arrangement)..so it won't sound the same..

if it's really important...(and it is)there's always the ol' dummyclips+midiyoke workaround..

Thanks for your responses. I was expecting those answers. Isn't it weird that a 3rd party vst provides additional functionality over Live's native devices.

For this reason alone I have started using Arrange View as a second loop container for clips. It works in the studio when arranging a song. But in a live situation it is unfortunately pretty stuck.

Some time this year I will get M4L. Theres tons of midi plugs already created that can help with atomizing parameter movement in Session view. Envelope modulators, LFOs, Step Sequencers, etc.
