When I upgraded last year I did not have to. I have formatted the HDD and installed Snow Leopard on it, and then used restore settings and files to transfer all my Applications, Library, Documents etc. etc. from the backup disk. Live worked without asking for any license.

Best regards,

Andrejs

Did you create the backup disk using disk utility?

No, I use SuperDuper app to create bootable disk backup of everything essential to me except Movies and Downloads folders on a portable USB drive. It is scheduled to run every night and works like a charm.

^^
I use it too with manual scheduling and full backup.
So I could install Snow from scratch and then copy back the directories with documents
and applications, right? or I should use restore?

Thx

I don't exactly remember how it was called, but I used something like "Transfer documents and applications from another disk" option later when Snow Leopard has completed installation on a freshly formatted disk. I then pointed it to my external backup drive, it started copying all my apps, related files and docs and after a few hours I had most of my apps working on freshly installed Snow Leopard.

Do you speak Russian?

Thank you, then it's a Snow Leopard thing. Cool.
