What's the difference between a "normal laptop?

The ADK is custom built for audio.

In search of some info on getting a new lappy, i got to know adk through the music computer section of Gearslutz's forum, and this guy's (Scott, the owner) posts really convinced me of his integrity, competence, and non-pushyness.
Of course, if you don't live in the US it's a bit more complicated (and shipping costs around 200 bucks for Japan, for example) but just read their manifesto and it's hard not to be convinced.
Shelling out 1500, 200 bucks for a new laptop is no small thing (at least for my wallet)and for the same price as a macbook or a big "consumer" pc, i started to think you'd be crazy not to go for it.
Of course, it makes sense if it's a strictly "audio only" laptop.
Can always get a very cheap used lappy for internet and email.

I don't have any experience with ADK's laptops specifically, but we use an ADK desktop at our studio. I can attest to the quality of ADK as a company. I am quite happy with them. There are a few quirks, odd design decisions, but overall they really do an amazing job. Customer support is very good, you get lifetime tech support automatically (you literally can't opt-out of it to save money lol). Their prices are pretty fair I'd say. Build quality of their machines is quite something. 8O

Thanks Xuoham, I read some stuff about ADK on gearslutz as well and it does seem like it will be a great laptop.
I might do a small partition on the hardrive for internet use when I have to travel, but other than that it will be only for audio.

Thanks Pyro Z.
They certainly aren't the best looking machines :) but as long as it gets the job done that's all that matters to me.
Good to hear that about their tech support.
I'm most likely going to opt for a 3yr warrenty as well.

Same here. I have a desktop made by ADK and yeah, Scott knows his stuff well. Extremely stable system. Support is great too.

Cool! What model do you have and what type of interface do you use? usb or firewire?
And what is your typical track count?
Thanks Kearley.

I bought the 8500MV in July 2009. I think it's a T9600 CPU?

I use the multiface/cardbus express.

Typical trackcount in my songs? Or max? I've never maxed it out, but I normally have the CPU at 20-30% in one of my electronic tracks.
Lots of headroom.

I do pin the CPU a little more if I'm recording in a full band scenario tho.

I'm not ABSOLUTELY sure ADK is the only way, but for the extra 2-300 dollars, it was way less risk. I'm still happy with my choice.

Track count per song.
Thanks for the info.
