My ONE BIG WISH: to type the value of an envelope point!
Re: My ONE BIG WISH: to type the value of an envelope point!
typing in the value is kinda secondary thing, what is important is that every move of a breakpoint or parameter is shown, currently you can move a parameter or a breakpoint without its numbers changing, but the numbers actually changed but live just doesnt show it.
live restricts parameter values only to just a couple numbers after the dot and visually approximates the numbers, so if you type in 0.199 hz live will show it as 0.20 hz.
so we see 2 problems here, one is that live visual representation of values is approximated and second is that live refuses to show all value changes. all of which are really annoying if doing some serious engineering/precision work.
in other words
if you have 2 audio tracks and you want their volume to be the same "-2.3db". with ctrl+left mouse button you set one track to -2.3 and other track to -2.3 thats what live shows you, but actually first track might be -2.3374348 db and track 2 might be -2.3300144 db and its like that with every live parameter. it is much faster to see exact values initially and set them with a mouse than to type in the values.
of course an option to type in numerical values to breakpoints and parameters is important, but if you know exact values of parameters the half of the problem is gone.
in live 8 they solved the problem in sequenser by showing 3 numbers after the dot in automation draw mode thus every change is numerically visible, but it applyes only to automation and only to some parameters like channel volume and sends and if you drag a breakpoint it will still show an approximate value cause it shows only one number after the dot.. thats so incomplete. other parameters like pan and vst parameters and clip volume and clip percentage envelopes and macro mapping amounts etc etc still show approximate values.
from the perfectionist and mathematical precision perspective, live is an ass currently.

... also for the velocities, or make the adjustement by mouse more precise!
Sometimes I have to release and regrab the velocitiy slider up to ten times until it's possible to fine tune an exact 100 value, for example...

well i think it would be best to have an "inspector" area as illustrated here which could facilitate all kinds of info and numerical input. From values for automation points to note positions and velocities (depending on what is selected)

Not only that ... if you move over a drawed line, it should show you the value.

+1 for that
most annoying is it when you draw tempo-automation in the arrangement-view... it really shouln't be such a big deal to handle that.
cheers

+1 (It's annoying that those values are only visible by adding a breakpoint.)OlafOverDJ wrote:Not only that ... if you move over a drawed line, it should show you the value.
They also forgot the "[Ctrl] Fine-Tune" option for velocities...
In some cases handling of automations, velocities and fades in Live is stone-age and feels fiddly like the poor editor from Reason... Workflow where are you

By now, almost five years have passed since I first asked this, and numerous people indicated their support.
What more do we need to do to get this smalish feature in the next release???

bump!
i hope i dont have to pay an upgrade fee to get this, the snap-to-grid, and mp3 export request.
