I Mac 27" (Dual Core or Quad Core)
Looking to buy a new IMac not sure if I should go with a dual core or quad core (ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?)- computer mainly used for music production and possibly video in the future

Quad core - future proof it, especially if u want to starting doing video.

The Core 2 Duo processors are really, really old (in computer standards). If you can afford the quad core i 5 or i7, go for it and don't look back. You'll get a lot of extra life out of the machine in the long run (whether you do video or not).

i7 quad core
and get at least 8GB of ram (2 per core)
it flies.
hyperthreading give osx 8 "cores" to play with.
my imac is faster then the batch of mac pro 8 cores i use at work.

looking at one myself just 5 mins ago for an up and coming event. Future proof you want 3 -4 yeasr out of it. i have an I7 pc system and i,m running maybe 2-3 dozen softsynths plus many compressors, waves, Kontakt etc etc - hasnt maxed yet i7 920 2.66ghz 6 gb ddr win 7 64

i hardly ever use my macbook now.

i have an old macbook pro with 2.2 ghz core^2 and havent maxed it out yet.. The i5 should be win to the max

Some of my PC friends think the i7 is too overpriced for what it is, and that the i5 is the better choice. But, PC people always think everything is overpriced, so it's hard to say. But, the choice between a Core 2 Duo (technology from 2006) and an i5 is easy.
