Live and Bidule - The Instant Crazy Drummer

Post by conny » Fri Apr 08, 2005 11:52 am

Inspired by hoffman2k's Parameter modulation example, I merged that with my CC scaling bidule groups.
When for instance letting note velocity come back as CC to modulate the attack time in Simpler, it will very often be set so high that the notes will not be heard att all. By scaling the CC for that specific target, the attack modulation can be hold inside usable limits.

The Live set is set up with Simpler that receives CC's for almost every parameter.
The example is PC style with Midi Joke, Joke 4 as external midi in.
Midi out from second midi track goes to Midi Joke 1, which is present in the Bidule layout as receiver.

When set up, just trigger the midi clip in scene 8 (just three identical notes playing).
The drummer is unpredictable. He may stay silent for more the 10 secs and then suddently do a long burst of hits, to finish with som resonant slow things and disppear for a while.

Edit: Uh, something was not right with the uploaded files. It seems you will have to manually set the Simpler sample start back to hear anything and two or three targets are not modulated, so the drummer gets more boring than intended. I'll have a look.

Edit2: OK, triggered the wrong clip. Use not the first but the second midi clip, that in scene 8.

Edit3: Turn on Simplers loop and snap for more fun.

Nice work. I'm surprised you didn't add inverters though.

Hehe, you have not opened the CC shift and scale groups?
Invert - checkbox 8)
So invert may be applied to individual CC # by adding a CC shift and scale group after a CC filter.

Easiest way to invert is to add a CC shift and scale group for all CC that are not filtered (the rejected out of CC Filter# 53) and turn on invert in that group.

BTW: The drums-b.wav in starter sets, hiphop sounds, works well for this drummers skills.

Tempo anomaly

Post by Liam » Fri Apr 08, 2005 3:42 pm

On my system the tempo in Live was 313 approx after I loaded your als file..

Was this deliberate or some glitch on my PC?
