That about sums it up... I like it.ethios4 wrote:It's fun
I like making music no one has heard before
I like making the music I want to hear, but no one is making
I like giving music to friends, and writing music for gatherings
I like feeling like I'm part of a continuum of music history
I learn deep and meaningful things about life from writing music
I will go crazy if I go for more than a few weeks without writing/playing music
I love having a smoke and driving around listening to my own music
Music makes sense when nothing else does
I can listen to music now that I made years and years ago
I like helping my musical friends complete their projects
I like writing and performing music with other people
It's fun

I enjoy making things, I also happen to love music and like playing with toys and making silly noises. I enjoy performing because it's mostly taught me I can be whoever I want to be on & off stage.

I was talkin to friend of mine the other night, he's been a professional actor for like 15 years. We had a similar discussion about why we got into the arts (I have been involved in music since I was a kid). We concluded that we both started for the same reason. Girls. Granted, we where both teenagers when we started down the artistic paths that we are both on and now the reasons have evolved. At this point in my life I can break it down to a few things.
1) The charge that I get when I create
2) The charge I get from collaborating with other artists ( be it in my band or doing sound design in the theatre or what ever)
3) Performing on stage/connecting with listeners

Re: Why do you make/create/produce/engineer/mix/write/play/DJ/..
For me, I just truly love and appreciate music and what it can do for me. Certain songs can trigger up fond memories, they can help motivate me to push myself further, they can bring comfort, they can calm me down, or help me express myself. I have had numerous experiences where music just completely hit me like a runaway freight train and profoundly impacted my life. That’s why I do what I do, because I want to have that same impact on others…I remember going to shows and being like, “what was that track?!?” and it was all about being exposed to new music and sounds, so when I dj I always make it a point to try and unleash fresh new tunes on people so they go home wondering what just happened.
