Mac book pro crashes
Mac book pro crashes
Yesterday, twice, i was working with Ableton while the computer was hooked into my M-Audio firewire audiophile soundcard, and after I left it idle for a while (making lunch), i came back to find a gray window in the middle of the display that asked me (in 5 different languages) to force shut down the laptop.
What did I do wrong?
Does the Mac freak out when it tries to go to sleep with a fw device hooked up?
AAAlso, I've been dealing with a bunch of Live crashes, specially when I try to drop an AU plugin to a channel that is already hosting a vst. Is this something I need to report, or are 'they' already working on this issues?
Snow Leopard 10.6.3
2,53 ghz core 2 duo
4 gb ram

Re: Mac book pro crashes
I don't think it's so much your computer going to sleep with a FW device added, but that the firewire device is being utilized by software at the time. I know I've read that Digidesign tells you to turn off the sleep function on your computer, but I don't know what the rule is with Ableton. I would bet, though, that if the firewire device hadn't been in use when your computer went to sleep, that your computer wouldn't have locked up.

Hi swett,
that's a kernel panic: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1392 - http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
What version of Live?
SubFunk had it recently with 8.1.3b2: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 3#p1114263
Could be Live + M-Audio...

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver shows OS X 10.6.2 for the latest audiophile drivers.
Fckn M-Audio often lag behind with drivers. On 10.5.3 it took ages… The only kernel panic I ever had was due to M-Audio drivers.

I've had many crashes with a Mac Pro. I suspect the bluetooth to be the case... I turned it off, and no crashes since, though it is recent.

OS X 10.6.3 + M-Audio drivers, or 10.6.3 + M-Audio drivers + Live, or...

Ok, still happening today…
I shut down ableton and closed the lid of the mac without suting down the soundcard, and when i reopend the computer, it gave me the panic window.
So, def not an Ableton problem..
shit.

Re: Mac book pro crashes
I get this when I plug in my Fast Track Ultra via USB on my MBP.. I just need to turn the FTU on, and plug it in when the computer is off, then turn the computer on and it's fine.. Was told to get beta drivers from m-audio but that didn't do the trick so I just live with it.

It just works.
Re: Mac book pro crashes
Sleep mode fucked everything up until I got an RMC interfacer.. Now, my macbook can sleep when ever it wants to.
