max for live trouble. cant open device editor.

live 8.1 - authorized

max 5.1

expired max demo

had the m4l beta working

m4l content shows up under library tab

max intrument, max midi effect and max audio effect show up in demo mode

when i press edit button on a max plugin it doesn't open. "starting max editor" stays in status bar.

m4l does NOT show up under user account licenses

M4l does NOT show up at www.ableton.com/account/licenses


am i missing something here?

It seems that you have Max and Live but you don´t have Max for Live.

erm, did you read my post?

i'm trying get the demo running, i'm not about to spend that kind of money without a try before buy. the plugins show up in the live browser, and i can drag them into tracks, but when i try to open the editor i get nothing. obviously there's some kind of error. can i have some kind of support other than a link to the shop, please?

Is there any resolution on this yet?

Just tried in in Live 8.1.3. It lets me run M4L in demo mode, but the editor will not start. I get the same "Starting MAX Editor.." message described by glamourboy.

Same problem - can't open max editor. Really annoying. Is there a fix available for this?

I hit this problem again recently. trying to run M4L in demo mode.

I can't remember where, but I found something that said I needed to contact C74 to get the MAX demo extended.

In the end I couldn't be bothered - one obstacle too many.

Just bought M4L yesterday and at the first try I had the exact same problem.

I am running Live 8.2.2 + Max 5.1.8 on a win XP machine.

This is very annoying especially when you buy legit software and it starts having problems from the first day you use it...

Anyone found a solution?

I got this email from Ableton Support back in February about this issue.

Hi Micah,

thanks for your email and your interest in Max for Live.
The problem you describe is a known issue that occurs if a computer contains a previously expired Max demo.
Unfortunately there is no or workaround or solution for this at the moment, but we´re working with Cycling 74 to fix this problem hopefully in the near future. Sorry for not having any better news on this.

THIS IS NOT OK.

I used the demo, I got creative, made some great songs.

The demo expired. Now I can't save or export my songs.

I want my songs back, I could give an eff about m4l.

Otherwise cycling 74 can plan on paying me for damages?

I don't know what to say, I know that sounds a bit absurd, but this problem is a bit absurd.

FIX IT. I am looking into my rights regarding this matter.
