Behringer FCB1010...good for Live?

I recently go an FCB1010 and was very nearly turned off the idea by reading how hard they are to program via these forums.
Thing is, it comes with a manual and is a piece of cake to program, really. The only thing to keep in mind is to program it to send note messages or controller messages.

it can be programmed for cc#s, program changes or midi notes. so yeah, you must have misunderstood something along the way

You can have any switch be cc, note, program change or a combination of all three. Plus each button (10 buttons times 10 banks = 100 total buttons) can change what the two expression pedals do (200 pedal combinations). Its fabulous but I would like to know how others have theirs configured. I spent the past two weeks on my vacation meditating and programming on it to get prepped up for our live show. I play trumpet and keys. There is a turntablist who plays an MPC too and we have a drummer who also plays handsonic and other electronic drums.
The show went great but I want to change a few things about the template. I like to predominately improvise and capture loops from any member at any time hands free (I sometimes play trumpet and keys at the same time as well as dub everything out). When we set it up during the week we just improvised and didn't prepare any tracks from the album. It went so well that we wanted to experiment with improvising our whole show. The crowd enjoyed it but the bootyshaking factor was down because I struggled with the monitoring a little. The crowd missed hearing songs from the album. Oh well, lesson learned.
Anyway, here's the template that I used.

Scene 00:
1 play
2 Stop
3 Record
4 Up scene
5 Down Scene
9 Play all loops
10 Stop all loops No Exp pedals

Scene 01-04:
Buttons 1-8 for Audio tracks 1-8
Scene1 Record enable
Scene2 Trigger
Scene 3 Stop
Scene 4 Mute
9 Play all
10 Stop All
EXP A Scroll scenes
EXP B Volume of the Selected Track ie hit Button 2 EXP B controls vo of track 2

Scene 5:
Turn FX on and off for trumpet (chain of Compressor - Guitar Rig(for harmonizer) - Autofilter - Chorus)
Turn on and off Supatrigga on master out.

Scene 6-9
Same as 1-4 except tracks 9-16 are MIDI tracks

Track seventeen was a simple boom clack rhythm with a small cymbal emphasis on the one out an extra output for the drummer. The click track is annoying and any eighth notes will affect whether he swings or not.
Track 9 was MIDI for the nord lead so I could tweak the settings filter, etc... instead of having it as audio.
Track 10 was a B4
Track 11 was the Mtron (love that sound)
Track 12 was operator
I haven't set up 13-16 yet

I also use the UC33 with preset 1 controlling Tracks 1-8 and 2 for 9-16 faders for volumes and bottom two rows of knobs for sends A and B. The top row is for from left to right. Cue vol, master high pass filter freq, reso, Envelope, Master simple delay left time, right time, feedback, dry/wet. I learned this from BT. Master effects chain Autofilter - Simple Delay - Supatrigga - PSP Vintage warmer (like Sasha)
I was using an 01v mixer with stereo AUX send going out to live so any instrument could be recorded to any channel with the exception of Track 1 which is dedicated to the trumpet.
Next time I am flying so I will probably not be able to bring the mixer but I should be able to figure out a similar setup just using live with bussing tracks.
When I first programmed it, I was record enabling tracks as I needed to record but this was way too slow so I Record enabled all the audio tracks from the jump and this saved me a step. The things that held me up at the show were the exclusive rec arming that I did not shut off -duh- and the dub mentality I have of muting tracks with a mixer instead of stopping the clips(This gummed me up beacause I would turn down a track or it would be muted and still playing when I wanted to record on the same track in the next scene) Oh well Live and learn. This was the first show with Ableton and I was very pleased. Before this I used the Triton studio and Repeater for years. We got so much spontaneous great material recorded in those two weeks. I just kept going scene by scene the whole time not deleting anything recorded even at the show(other than the occassional mistake and misfire when the drummer got turned around on the beat)

If anyone would like to share their own setup that would be great!!! I am anxious to see if anyone is doing similar things.

Ben, that sounds like an awesome setup! I can't wait to hear the show!

My fcb setup is somewhat modest compared to yours, probably because my hands aren't *as* occupied during a performance:

preset 1 - midi looping:
1-4: enables record for midi track 1-4
6-9: play/record for midi track 1-4
5+10: scene up/down

preset 2 - audio looping - synth (all tracks armed):
1-8: play/record for tracks 1-8.

Preset 3 - effects:
1-10 Toggles on/off for various stuff, primarily Ellotronix XL looper. Exp1 controls the send to the looper, exp2 controls feedback.

I have to check out the Ellotronix looper it looks pretty sweet. Cool to see that you have a similar setup
