Intro becomes its own song. Need second opinion!!!

Post by Magik » Tue Jun 08, 2010 11:47 pm

This was suppose to be an intro for another song ive been working on lately but I quickly got carried away with this song and it went in another direction than I had originally planned.

It is just a simple loop with some effects. I'm not sure if I should develop the melody further or add percussion, or another instrument. Even if I did choose to add more, I can't hear in my head how I would like it to sound.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, they would be much appreciated!

Well I can imagine what I would do with it:
add bass, add drums, add some pads, and probably add a main synth too :).
What tempo is this at? I might give it a go myself actually, it's a cool sound ;).

Its at 120 bpm. I wasn't sure how it would sound with anything because I thought it sounded overpowering but I was playing around with some song I bought and I took a drum a loop from Mutt - Conversations and I really liked how it was starting to sound. Its sort of a down tempo Drum and Bass song so I think I'm gonna go for the same feel with my song.

If you wanna give it a try I'll send it to you this weekend. I wanna get it finished up first so I don't hear another version and try to copy it :P

I recon this could def work. Maybe a bit of movment in the reverb? automate it so that the whole thing kinda swells up and down throught. Verb could make some nice pad-like sounds under it with the right settings in certain sections, too.

Those edits underneath the main melody, where you have some rapid hits, I really like those and I reckon it would really carry the piece if you spent a lot of time building those through sections, some more subtle, some more random and abrupt.

Other than that, I think it needs more dynamics in the velocity of the individual hits personally.

I can imagine to evolve that in a great electro melody.

Here is what I have come up so far with it. I wouldn't say I'm anywhere near finished yet. I'm really starting to contemplate changing the instruments. I enjoy listening to it as it is but it just seems very dreamy.

If anyone could point out something they don't like or would like to change let me hear your a opinion. I am very new to writing music.

Also, this hasn't been mastered yet as its still a rough draft. The transition to piano is a little bit rough but not to unpleasant in its current form.

Used to be called Incoming Message but ive changed the name to Oktober. Not to hard to find the original as I only have 2 songs up on soundcloud.

As it stands, the drums are from Mutt - Conversations feat. Kevin King - Original Mix but I don't plan on using any samples in the songs finished form.
