well, re-reading your OP, Dum:
red herring nonsense
.
WHAT THE HELL IS THAT????
not sure if you really don't know, so I will explain because i feel like it, from wikipedia
A "red herring" is a deliberate attempt to divert a process of enquiry by changing the subject.

For example:

"I think that we should make the academic requirements stricter for students. I recommend that you support this because we are in a budget crisis and we do not want our salaries affected."

Topic A is the proposal that academic requirements be raised. Topic B is the possible effects of a budget crisis on teacher salaries. Topic A is abandoned and the unrelated topic B is introduced.
To the exact point of the OP, in meaningful logical debate about material/social/governmental concerns, introducing a religious consideration is a deliberate attempt to derail the discussion. Or, as Jesus said, "give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's etc...":
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.

All of you non believing atheist asswipes won't be so smugly self satisfied when Yog-Sothoth comes to rip out the souls you think you don't have.

And it's gonna hurt.

Don't say I didn't warn you. Or tell you so. Or something.

Agnostic here.

Never understood the whole organised religion thing.

I usually screw up church folk by asking.
"Do you believe you have a direct relationship with God?"
Answer always comes back as "Yes, of course"

My response.
"So why do you require the church as your middle man?"

one thing is all christians / muslims / religious zealots etc ARE atheists..... when it comes to islam / christianity / other religions etc. as they all believe their god is the one true god.

so why not take the equation further to its natural conclusion - zero.

I have found I have a lot in common with believers. We all share a belief that all other believers are wrong. We just disagree on their god.

'Is it not enough to see that the garden is beautiful without having to believe there are fairies at the bottom of it too?' - Douglas Adams

'I would never die for my beliefs, because I might be wrong' - Bertrand Russell.
