performing with 13''macbook-experience-Big enough?!

Post by maze23a » Sat Jun 19, 2010 6:59 am

I'm planning buying a macbook pro in the fututre.
Not only for performing but sometimes for performing as well!
For general use i like the 13'' better cause it feels much more mobile
and i like to use it when travelling also.
But when it comes to perform-is it too small?
Do you have experience with performing with 13''?

I've been playing gigs with a 13" MacBook for over two years. Of course, at times, you wish the screen real estate was bigger, but it isn't a show killer for me -- I got used to it. I wouldn't position it too far from your face though.

Having said that, my next laptop will be a Mac Book Pro with a 15" screen. ;-)

definitely bug enough, assuming you got some nice midi controls under the hands, and that you KNOW what pad/button controls what

Running live shows with 13" macbooks since now 3 years, definitely good.

cheers

I wish there was higher resolution option, more real estate on the display for using Traktor. As far as Live is concerned I am fine on stage, booth etc as well as all mobile situations. If you want to use it on ICEs,bus, car, 13` is better choice. 15` is just bit bigger but from my experience that "little" turns PITA all the time when in above mentioned mobile situations (unless you fly first class, driven in limos...)

Big enough, but I'm finding 15 inches far more luxurious!

13 MB works fine for me and i've been using it for gigs ranging from festivals to clubs.
I've mapped all the stuff I need to my controllers, so when I change to another track, I only need to
glance for a bit, to orientate, then playout the rest of the track just looking at my controllers.

currently use a PadKontrol and a Launchpad for live gigs.
i suppose the extra real estate comes in handy if your live session is pretty intricate.
...and it's mr sakitumi (too late to change profile name)...damn
LIVE, DS lite, a tambourine, tape recorder.

i like mine as well... at the time the extra few hundred was impossible... but I would say its not an "unfair" price difference. I'm not sure about the 15 but I know the 17 isn't just "bigger" it also has a MUCH higher resolution which would be the key difference for me if I upgrade.

I think speed is more important than 13 vs. another size...
