Gonna go listen to some visionaries like Tiesto now.

totally agreed!Tarekith wrote:Agreed, it's not a critical skill anymore but all DJs should still know how to do it regardless. Takes what, an afternoon to learn anyway? Being really good at something means learning all the tools of the trade, not just your favorite.
beatmatching or any possible mix and 'play' technique is a good to know. it just makes you better.

i hope they integrate fully maschine as a plug into traktor that would be the ultimate killer and pretty much wipe the rest from the surface.ChiDJ wrote:@SubFunky:
I'm a fan of Traktor and the Maschine Combo. Just haven't had a chance to jump to that level. That's my plan.
And, just beat a dead dog deader, Beat Matching isn't the Be all End all to DJ'ing. Far from it. BUT.......If you skip learning to Beat Match and jump to "DJ", you are only hurting yourself.

Nothing like a good solid piece of irony to make a tuesday feel like friday.

And he seems to be keeping plenty busy without beatmatching. How is that possible?!?!SubFunk wrote:yeah baby, a step above... talking cue points i love that you can do so many funky things with them... yum.beats me wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6bapWp-4k0contakt321 wrote:Just curious, other than the effects - what is the other 95%?

Where were you when someone linked to that interview of him burning DJ's and it became like a 20 page thread?the_antagonist wrote:can I ask?

Anyways the Deadmau5 thing was kind of a forum joke / ploy to get people to read the thread. Anything with Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Tiesto, Sasha, Obama, BP, Afghanistan, religion, etc. in the title guarantees to get hits.

Aren't they? I asked a while back about what current DJ's inspire people. The most common answer was "None". "They all suck" etc etc etc. The exception seemed to be producer/DJs like Deadmau5.beats me wrote:He thinks most DJs are over hyped talentless twats.the_antagonist wrote:can I ask?

I don't think this topic will ever die nor should it, as long as the tools and techniques advance I see a need to rehash how to use them and how other people use them. Even if just to say MOST people aren't using those tools and techniques to their full potential.

So you are saying that I can trigger cue points of a disastrously uncool and out of date song? Awesome!!!beats me wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6bapWp-4k0contakt321 wrote:Just curious, other than the effects - what is the other 95%?

I am half kidding, I have seen this one - definitely cool, but quite frankly, I don't think is something I would be doing in a club.
Anyone else using cue points creatively on here? What are you doing?
The one thing I have seen in Traktor that I really like is the looping. For example, have 1 song playing, and then loop a 4 bar intro of the incoming record, have them both playing and then unloop so the incoming record builds at exactly the right time.
Re: I agree with Deadmau5 a bit more each passing day...
DJ's don't exist without producers
Re: I agree with Deadmau5 a bit more each passing day...
Really the point of that video is what you can do without farting around with beatmatching. Also you can't discount the effects section. It's far beyond just filter, delay, and reverb. I'll try to find another video showing this later.contakt321 wrote:So you are saying that I can trigger cue points of a disastrously uncool and out of date song? The real skill is being able to utilize all the features in a coherent set that isn't overkill or obnoxious. To the dance floor it should sound more like remixes of tracks they've never heard before, not blatant effects, loops, and one shot abuse. That's what I think you partially mean by "I don't think this is something I would be doing in a club." It's a lot of work and skill to do it right and a lot of DJs aren't willing to put in the time or effort. That video was obviously meant as a demo so of course it's going to be a little over the top.
