64 bit native Ableton Live?
For those of us who have invested in new Intel Core i5/i7 machines running Snow Leopard (can't speak to Windows 7), we all know Live is a lot less reliable than in other version of OS X. THROW US A BONE ABLETON! Ableton Live on OS 10.6 for me is unusable. Live runs like a dream on my Powermac G4, so long as I don't mind being stuck only being able to a few plugins at a time with it's now-outdated PowerPC processor. Give a little bit of information. Live 8 has been out for far too long to not even hint at a new version. Ableton, whatever is to come in the next version of Live, it must be a doozy.

Yeah, it's definitely time for music software to be 64 bit. I mean, Native Instruments already has several 64 bit versions of their plugins, and they are the slowest to accommodate technological advancements. See: When Macs when Intel. I bought a MacBook pro in January of whenever when the first ones were released. It was over a year before all of Native's plugs had universal binaries.
And with RAM so cheap, so many more computers have more than 4 gigs of RAM. I've got 8 in my laptop and 16 in my desktop. Yet I frequently have Live crash because it is out of memory. Totally unnecessary.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 64-bit Live SO LONG AS there is a useful, working bridge/solution for 32-bit plugins. Reaper 64 has no issues with any of my plugins.
Considering my next computer will be a 4-8GB MacBook Pro, and I'm eyeing Omnisphere, I'd definitely find 64-bit Live quite useful.

I don't 'produce.' I write music.

Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
I'm in total disbelief that a cutting edge company like Ableton are so far behind the 64 bit curve. Hugely disappointing!
Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
add me to the list of those who really, really want to see live go 64 bit.
I'm still on 7, I see no reason to upgrade until live is 64 bit!
Sure reaper opens all plugins pretty much with no issue, and I have 64 bit Studio One installed, but, none of
these compare to Live. Really surprised they haven't done it yet. Or at least add some sort of memory server function
so plugins can access more ram or something.
can't wait to see this.

Even FL Studio 9.5 has a bit-bridging solution.
Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
Yes I'm with your guys, your not wrong. 64 bit is the future; it's inevitable. lets start developing the dedicated 64bit SW now so we can work out the problems with it before everything is 64 bit. The RAM consumption and dynamic depth of the newer vst/i are creeping up fast. The host must be able to keep up and utilize the demands, otherwise Ableton will become a weak entity.
Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
I'm already turning to Maschine or BPM over Live on a regular basis lately, no I can't use my plugins, but I can load up tons of instrument sound without worrying about hitting a ram limit.
Both are 64 bit programs so they can take advantage of my ram.
If either one of them implement vst hosting, it's over.
When I want to compose with my plugins, I open studio one or reaper, both can access my ram.

Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
I'm with you. We need 64-bit this year...
Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
Desperately want this. Am constantly hitting the 2GB/process limit on my sets and it drives me to distraction.
Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
As a stopgap, getting Live to farm out some processing to actual processes (rather than just threads) would be incredibly helpful in using the full complement of memory in my machine. Just a thought...
Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
+ 1 for 64Bit Support, I encounter daft Controller mapping issues On times Presuming this is down to running 32bit Pro on vista64, Either Way yes for a 64bit Version.
Re: 64 bit native Ableton Live?
you know I was thinking about that too, if we had the option to choose for plugins to run in their own processes outside of Live, that could be very helpful. I think that would hold a few of us over until native 64 support was introduced.Sly One wrote:As a stopgap, getting Live to farm out some processing to actual processes (rather than just threads) would be incredibly helpful in using the full complement of memory in my machine. In theory, that would be pretty nice if they did it properly. Maybe even let us choose in options, which plugins we want to run as separate processes.
wonder how much work that would be to code in relation to coding for native x64 platforms.
