Did you try to contact Apple already? Maybe they offer a downloadable driver or fw.

first of all, let me introduce myself, my name is grillz, regular ableton producer, not so much dj. i've been posting in the abletondjforum and a guy there (trevester) told me that there was a berlin users group in here and so i should post this here too.

well, i'm thinking about moving to berlin for 1 month...

i just finished high school (i'm 18 years old), and my university only starts in January. Mean while, after the summer, i thinking about moving to berlin for a month, between setember and october, just to study its night (yes, really study, understand, knowing how it works and all that).

my city, Lisbon, only has 1 really good club, Lux Fragil, (it's actually one of the best sonically speaking, the whole place was built around the idea of pure sound), but it's the place where only 20% max of the people go to listen music (it has a really good schedule, we just has james holden, raresh, carl craig, sebo k, sven vath, and some more playing), so most of the people in there aren't really underground...

so i want to do something good for my city and for the music, but i want to learn from the best, THE GERMANS.

because of all this i need some advice, as i have no idea how it's to live in Berlin, or Germany.

if some of you can give me some information about:

- students residencies and its prices

- how much is the food (like bread, meat, coffee, etc)

- a place to work for money (i've worked in 2 hotels, one being a 5 star)

- places to party, besides berghain (eventhough in going to pay him a lot of visits) and all the big clubs, like after parties

- general advices on living in a german city

i'm planing of taking 750 euros with me... please help me out here :)

hi grillz,

welcome to the forum

- students residencies and its prices
don't know exactly but a friend of mine just hired a room in a share flat for 250 euros a month in kreuzberg (funky nightlife district and a place to be)
- how much is the food (like bread, meat, coffee, etc)
generally speaking berlin is dead, dead cheap definetely by far the cheapest ever capitol city anywhere and the cheapest in germany (but the standards are like that as well, ) even a village outside of berlin is usually pricier... you can grab a good meal for around 6 euros...
- a place to work for money (i've worked in 2 hotels, one being a 5 star)
check stuff like craigslist, if you can speak a little bit of german (and definitely perfect english) then a job in bars/restaurants/hotels shouldn't be to hard to get... (if you are not to fussy, but hey it's only for a month or two...)
- places to party, besides berghain (eventhough in going to pay him a lot of visits) and all the big clubs, like after parties
to many to mention... seriously! alone in revaler strasse in friedrichshain (friedrichshain and kreuzberg have the largest nightlife) are something like 8 clubs alone...

once you are here you will hear about more places then you can handle in half a year doing nothing e but going out...
- general advices on living in a german city
don't behave like an american loud twat.

i'm planing of taking 750 euros with me... please help me out here :)

depending on how much you want to do party wise... i mean it is cheap... entrance is between 2 and 10 euros (with some exceptions, like berghain)
and drinks are usually cheap as well (compared to elsewhere in europe)

750 - 1000 euros should be fine to have a lot of fun.

LOL, what you want to learn? how to open 10 dozens of clubs all with super bad soundsystems, stinking filthy loos, furniture stolen from junkyards (no joke!) extremely drugged up people (i love drugs, but i don't like when stoopid people are canned with K and the good 'ol mdma is pretty much unavailable in germany these days  ) that ALL play the same boring music... don't dance properly, having the worst bar services in the world... but everything is dead cheap compared to abroad...
well, hence the low standards, where should it come from???

and if you wonder why it still 'works'... drugs!, drugs! and drugs, the cheap and uncomplicated and open dealing with / handling of drugs... any club toilet in berlin is an open market for anything without any problem... take that away... nothing left but bad music on super bad soundsystems in rotten holes.

well good luck finding out the hype of the 'electronic music mecca' is a hype without any substance. (except the illegal ones, of course)

have fun
cheers.

p.s. i hope you learn... how to not do it!

is it really like that? the idea that most of the non-german europeans have of berlin is that it's a real mecca for EDM. like ibiza, but cheaper, more industrial and more hardcore.

could you please be more explicit about the "all play the boring same music" (i'm imagining you're speaking about that berlin techno, but is it the only thing that works in berlin? like there's no house music parties?), and the "10 dozens of clubs all with super bad soundsystems"?

^^^ well it is, i come around a bit DJ-ing mainly abroad... because here is no room for music and low quality i am not up for!

minimal and germaqn style techno still rules... you got abviously a bit of house going (well even panorama bar turns more and more into the bergahin sound  )

but in real bad clubs, dirty, filthy cheap places with real super bad sound...

once in awhile is something different going on (i just recently was at a soul / funk party with mitch alive and marc hype (well known funk / hip hop artist) and the sound was a disaster making the whole experience awful, even the music was beautiful and marc's scratch / dj skills are awesome

i am from here... i left 98 for several years berlin because of the bad musical / clubland situation... came back two years ago and made one of the biggest mistakes in my life, i hate it here... and i alway look forward to play abroad in decent clubs for nice crowds.

hundred of thousand others love berlin for it's 'sound' i hate it.

i think what i hate most, is the fact that berlin people proabaly are the most tolrerant and open minded people on earth, except when it comes to music then they are minimal hardcore nazis. :? i don't get it.

i am sure plenty of people will tell you the exact opposite... so come experience it yourself and judge yourself.

just please don't export / import that shit. it's enough to have it here.

and i tell you in case you wonder... the main reason a hell lot of really successful DJs / producers moved here, is not because it is good club / music wise, but because it is the cheapest large city you can live in with still having reasonable standards and access to the world (flights)... all the real successful DJs are permanent travellers and berlin is the cheapest spot to have a base... they don't care because they are hardly here... and if, they take some studio time (also very cheap to have a separate proper studio) or go occasionally out (then it's a change to hear boring minimal  )

it has nothing to do with quality, it is simply because it's cheap...

i know many of the so called 'big' names and those are the reasons... cheap living / flat / tax / insurance (easy to set up companies for labels as well, with having very low costs, compared to the rest of europe) low fixed costs altogether when you are hardly at home.

hum ok, very interesting really. could you tell me which clubs in berlin have a decent sound quality? not looking for fabric's or lux's quality, but sort of. like something similar to well placed funktion one with good sound isolation

and another thing, the stories you hear about berghain and all, is it basically all just drug injected like you said? like there's no really party people who go there just for the music?

this conversation is coming a real shocker to me

^^^ good sound in berlin.... let me think....

i tell you when i there is one... (hours later)

tape club, maybe... it is close to what i consider good sound and raumklang does have definitely the best, unfortunately it is not working at all very well as a club (bad booking / management) but that is apparently about to change... very nice to see, because the club itself has some very decent standards.

the rest i don't like... not berghain either (function one, very poorly setup, the hall is just one rattling can)

and what do you mean by 'stories' ???

well like anywhere else in the world drugs play a major role in clubland, just that here people don't party much on them... well they think they do, but i assure you they don't, simply saying that from playing elsewhere (and very occasionally here) myself... and that (outside of berlin) is usually what i call a damn MF party vibe.

but:
so come experience it yourself and judge yourself.
i personally hate it so much here that i can't even see anything good anymore, even if it would exist...
