Not so sure how, but I do know they use a virus.
I got a similar effect using the grain things in reaktor. There was a particular one I got from the user library that did something similar... But I can't remember the name. I'll try find out.

It's definitely some kind of grain effect.
I don't know of to many outside of Reaktor sorry... but the start/end point of samples (for example the vocal in the Ladytron remix) - i got pretty much the exact same effect with one of the user library plug ins... also some similar stuff with electronic instruments v2.

Why not get the demo of Reaktor and play around with the grain effects it comes with?

There's a great tutorial from Hybrid showing them using something that sounds quite like the synths in some of the Sasha track.

Also a couple years ago Charlie May released a 147 ( i think) patches for the Virus synth... someone may have bounced them out...

Also one thing I've noticed in the production of his - lots of automation of the reverb tails.

There was also a website i remember with a tutorial on how to make your own grain sampler.
Try find that.

This is the one you want

Image

Here's a bit about it

http://www.native-instruments.com/index ... cloud3&L=5

Basically what you are hearing with the Charlie May stuff is the position and length being played with - try loading a short vocal snippet into it and mess about with those parameters... you'll hear it pretty quick.

Once you have got to grips with that, try some more complex grain effect.

Also have a look at Grain Synth v1

Here is one of Hybrid talking about how to use it

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 6069487046#

Interesting stuff.
