looks like the Hackmac guys are off somewhere else. DAmn!

This shit is a nightmare haha (as expected)!!!!!! Managed to get to an osx desktop, but nothing was working. This via iboot.

As stipulated, this is not reccomended for the faint hearted. All that booting makes me feel sorry for my computer.

Mine's Leopard, didn't have much luck going to SL. :(

I'm buying an i7 Macbook Pro next week though. That'll save some trouble and will probably fix my 8.1.4 & 8.1.5 problem. 8.1.5 never worked, 8.1.4 used to work, and 8.1.3 still does!

Then when I've got a new main computer (the MBP) and don't need my current one on a daily basis I might Hack my desktop harder and make it do SL, else just Win7 it. It'll be more of a spare/big storage machine then anyway I can stuff old/seldom used/backup files on it, so if it's out of action for a while I won't care.

are you running a proper version of the OS?

I thought wiht the right bootloader thing it all just runs smoothly...
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

What's the appeal of a hackintosh? Is it just for people who prefer using OSX, or are there other benefits as well?

I thought a big part of the appeal of using Macs (besides the perceived-coolness factor) was the stability that came from the tight integration of hardware+software.

Seems to me like if you're using an OS that was built to work with a certain set of hardware, you'd be compromising the stability if you put it on other equipment.

Seems to work pretty well...I am totally fried from doing it. It really is the opposite of buying a mac. And yes, the music has totally taken a back seat for a week. I wouldnt recommend it if you want to remain sane.
Hopefully i ll be able to relax soon. The machine seems to work well, getting the same performance as windows. fast 8)
