why is live unable to find its own audio files?
why is live unable to find its own audio files?
I constantly need to show the search engine the folder where the files are in eve when it sits next to the song file.. and .. than. it dont even finds the samples inside the folder..its acting like beeing totaly blind...
allways happens with older projekts.. so L4 or L5.. but cnstantly.. there is not a singel old set i can load just wright away even when all sampkes are there..
why is that? any tips to get rid of the bad behaviour..except searching all files by hand and safe again ...
thats what i am doing since hours...

It's got the worst search function of any program i have used!
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

Re: why is live unable to find its own audio files?
TBH having time machine and being a bit better organised with my audio files these days has rendered the search function almost redundant.
I did however have to find something today and noticed it was scanning my whole hard drive to find the file rather than the folder it would most likely be in!
Still, it's a minor gripe. I guess the fact that live is so good in some areas makes it frustrating that everything isn't like that

Have you ever tried looking for a specific file like a bank of presets for a particular VST or even a sample? The only things it can find are items you have downloaded or things on your desktop.steko wrote:What's the problem?Bizon wrote:With the exception of the OSX search function.

Microsoft's is pretty lame too.Bizon wrote:tw1nstates wrote:It's got the worst search function of any program i have used!

The one in Outlook... takes days and spits candidates out in the most random order... one from 2007, one from yesterday, one from 2009, one from your mom, one from post master delivery failure notification... awful <barfing emoticon>

Err no.The only things it can find are items you have downloaded or things on your desktop.
There are limitations. E.g. it doesen't find System stuff per default, but you can always do a custom search (systemfiles, invisible etc.) & even save that as an intelligent folder in your sidebar: http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/spotlightsaved.html

What about the Microsoft dog search? (the first Windows tweak anyone of sane mind and will to keep it sane must do- remove the dog).Bizon wrote:tw1nstates wrote:It's got the worst search function of any program i have used!

I kept using ver.5 mainly because of the "innovative" search that came with ver.6 and despite of some saying it got better, it never did.
The only solution, take an evening, or whole day, go through all archives and organise them into projects etc, collect and save it all. Make some packs for safety too. I did it finally few weeks back and no headaches since then. Can move them mac<>pc, various drives, no issues any more, dont have to see them bloody strips moving and not finding.
I hope the man who invented that bloody system does not work@ Ableton anymore.
I believe in all pervading Universal Love, and we should love each other, but if I dont, actually hate one single individual it is the one who invented that ver.6 shit search.

I dunno, ever tried to search in XP? Drives me nuts...Bizon wrote:tw1nstates wrote:It's got the worst search function of any program i have used!

Re: why is live unable to find its own audio files?
seems as we have the same problem: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=147471
But I have this problem just for the Sets I started before I replaced the original files.
But on these sets I have to show it again, and again, and again....each time.
But not for Sets I started after the replacing of the original files.
any ideas why it is so?

Live can never find my missing files either.
Yeah, you can customise the OSX one.
I liked the Dog on the XP search. It made it more endearing when it couldn't find F***-all ever!

Re: why is live unable to find its own audio files?
please no osx / windows shit here.. the live internal search is blind like a mule...
i use the osx search all the time to find the missing file inside the projekt folder !
ther must be a more technical reasn for the blindness.. ther some weardness that makes live blind for files that chnged theoer location at one point in hystory.. so its not looking after the name of the file otherwise it would see it..
live search is also ignorant regarding folders inside of folders.. but when the user points handselected to a folder the program maybe could be fortunate enough to look into all files inside that folder?
why cant live just acces the os search funktions like otehr softwares? do they have to pay licencing fees than?
