OK, thanks for the tip. I just heard back from AH and they stopped stocking the AS case anyway. Shawn pointed me to the Doepfer cases. I'll keep looking.

Muffwiggler is where to go.

That is where I picked up my XS for a good price.

I saw that. Was thinking of impulsively buying it. Good start for VCO?

For some reason I was leaning towards the tiptop z3000, which reminds me, I also saw the z3000mk1 for sale on muff's for $180.

The FM alone is enough to pay an extra $80 for. Not to mention the wacky hard sync modulation thing, and the fact that it has an almost painfully precise frequency display and will go LFO slow. It's a real fine oscillator...the main reason I ditched mine was a combination of Malekko lust and digging a more retro aesthetic.

The TipTop piece I really want is that insane z8000 sequencer.

You would not be let down by either at those prices, just depends on your budget and what appeals to you. $80 is nearly 2x the price. Of course my Hertz Donut was $425.

I am right around where the o.p. is - I was set on the Dark Energy (or maybe the Oberheim S.E.M.). Except that I just got laid off work, and will need to get a job before taking the plunge.

There was mention of an active seller's market at muffwiggler - I don't see a dedicated forum for sales. Is stuff f.s. just announced in the individual forum for that maker?

Thanks to all for this enlightening discussion.

Yeah, there is a dedicated forum under Music category, it is called Buy/Sell/Trade. You have to be logged in to visit it too. Not sure if this will work, but here is a direct link

I will say that the patch panel SEM does appear to have good value for the money and has way more connections than most all-in-ones in the price range. I think it would be a great companion to a Euro setup.

Thanks, Tranzfuse. The forum is indeed hidden from view until you sign in.

Thanks for sympathetic remarks re: the job - but it was a really stupid job anyway, so I'm looking forward to a change.

Plus - I now have time to plan a modular set up. This thread has converted me away from the Dark Energy idea.

Also - good point, Kodama. Thanks for the input.

Cheers,

e.

I just stumbled upon this bamboo case that an individual has built and is beginning to sell: http://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewto ... highlight=

This thing looks really nice, they seem pretty inexpensive at $125. You would also need a Flight of Harmony power module for $85, but not too bad a deal at just over $200.

This one is very tempting. Only other one that is as tempting is the Monorocket Mission 6. I wish they made a 3u size though. I like that the bamboo case is 3u but longer than I've normally seen, at 104hp.

I'll make a decision sooner or later.

Don't look too bad.

I like the dove tail edges, looks well made in that respect.

The bamboo boat looks really nice. Apparently a good and affordable case.

Here's another thread with a few more pix: http://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21177

Thanks for that link. I think this is the case for me. I've emailed the designer to inquire. I believe this one is worth waiting for too (in case there is a queue of folks waiting for one already). Now I get to decide what to fill it with :)
