Programming sounds. Approach a synth/sampler hard or soft, get a sound I like, (this can be a found sound as well) make a basic loop pattern, write song.

Only part that I think is hard is polishing it up for release. I leave a lot of songs raw until the bitter end. This is also why I prefer working with a vocalist, their part helps determine what to cut and ad.

guitar lines, not riffs but complimenting lines. specifically clean electric lines or acoustic parts.

I usually find that when I go back to my roots and just start banging out random chord progressions on my guitar and humming potential melodies that I am in a far happier place than when I'm struggling with the technicalities of composition through technology.

I like programming Zebra or Drum Racks for the electronic stuff, but for general composing and music making, for me nothing beats my acoustic/electric instruments:

I've actually been thinking about forcing my sister to give me back my ukulele, for songwriting purposes.
It seems I always write my best stuff with extremely limited gear.

I used to have this little hand held cassette dictaphone that I used to whistle ideas into. Wrote loads of stuff back then.
