impressions of Live8.2 installation
impressions of Live8.2 installation
here's how it went..
1. the download was very slow.. took me about 8 hours to download..
2. the installation of Library updates took 50 mins.
3. after that process Live was running very sluggish..
gui was lagging and blacking out when minimizing and maximizing...
Live was so unresponsive that there was a 4 sec. lag for choosing a track..
4. crashed my computer a couple of times..
(on my laptop it wouldn't even start for the first time..'a serious error etc.' )
5. had to dump the preferences.cfg again..
(quite used to it by now..)
6. dialed in all my preferences again..
7. after that... in my 'preferences'.. I could no longer choose MME/DirectMusic for Midi Sync output on the sl25..
8. reinstalled novation drivers..fixed..
after this 24 hour "installation process" ...
it's running pretty nice and snappy..
(only played with it for 2 hours after that..)
played around with 'amp'..
very nice addition..
and it's no substitute for GuitarRig/gtr of course...
I was a bit unimpressed with the 'Cabinet' device
seems like little to no effort was put into it..very minimal..
no match for other alternatives..
on the plus side...
if you want to quickly dial in some nice distortion etc it comes in very handy.. effective..and simple..
I liked that you can easily jump between amps(1 knob)
while keeping all the other settings in place ..
great feature for 'happy mistakes'
edit :
9. crash when dragging in an m4l device...
10. Max Runtime crashes as well..
11. deleted Max preferences.. fixed
btw... "Live Suite"..windows7 64bit Intel Q9650 8gb ram MOTU 24i/o

Re: impressions of Live8.2 installation
1 hour download
5 minutes installation
performance just like before
no crashes
no file dumping needed
no preferences lost
soundcard settings all work
novation drivers still the old ones
yeah, i felt the need to post that. i feel sorry for you having had such a bad update experience, though.. slow downloads are understandable as all access at the same moment, the installation takes time because you have a harddrive, i have an ssd. everything else should not have happened.

Re: impressions of Live8.2 installation
About 20 minutes to download, an hour to install.
(on two machines, and I don't install on one until the other has finished; after I'm done, I check that the machines' respective libraries are in sync with each other)
No new problems noted so far.

20 minute download.
5 minute install.
20 minute library update.
3 minute authorisation.
Haven't had time yet to test it out for issues.
I was upgrading from Live 7 (at last!), if that makes a difference.

Re: impressions of Live8.2 installation
2 crashes within the 1st 15 mins of use. One while dragging an aiff audio file from finder into Live. Then second when I tried to save the Live set. I already sent the reports to ABleton. Just wanted to let 3Dot know he is not the only one:)

Everything downloaded and installed within 30mins on a 10MB connection and an Intel i5 2.66Ghz processor.
