On contrary Hewitt book is very usefull...
I'm also reading hewitt (slowwwly but surely) and It has been very helpful so far. I didn't know shit about music theory before I started, and found every bit of it

I bought "How To Make A Noise" with the hope that I could learn to actually make a decent sound with my synth. Unfortunately, that book is really just a more detailed user manual for the synths that he uses. If you are not using or are not prepared to use one of those synths, then it will not be a very helpful book.

I learned a few things from Snoman's book, but most of it didn't really help me. It seems to me to be like a music cookbook, i.e. if you want to make a "xxxx" song, do "aabbccdd" type thing. Anyway, I think that Roey's Mixing Audio is by far the most useful and informative book that I have read on the subject.

I'm reading Snoman's book right now. I find it informative. I find it a bit dated, but there is definitely some good insight in there. I find that a lot of the info is elsewhere online, but it's nice to have it all in one spot to refer back to when I forget something. I don't regret buying it, or reading it.
