Are we ready for more prefference options?

Discuss music production with Ableton Live.

Do we want more user prefferences?

Yes, i can deal with it, better than too much compromizing

Are we ready for more prefference options?

Post by 3phase » Sun Sep 26, 2010 10:32 am

Hi there,

I see a problem with abletons doctrin to keep the program simple to operate and dont have too many prefference options that might irritate the unexperianced user.

So far so good for the early stages of Lives development.. but its not the simple to use sample catapult anymore.. its allmost a DAW now...lots of hidden functions.. and in some regards even more complikated operations than in the big DAW´s.

Its not the same program anymore.. its not simple anymore..and why the prefferences have to be for simpletons still?

Actually they allready hold enough options to seriously screw or alter operation..
And when we are a DAW now.. we should do it as DAW´s are doing it..

regardless wether you look into the grafics or video or audio or cad world..
workstations are prefference settings monsters.. for good reasons..

I am not asking here for a prefference overkill.. But i see that ableto is doing quite a lot of compromize decissions to avoid extra user tabs in the prefferences to keep things easy..

The old keep it easy agende... not pulled thru for the main program.. so the master swing had to move away from the main screen.. but still strictly followed for the prefference tabs..

wher tabs that adjust sync behavior..or change the dj nudge into a producers nudge as we have it in protools are missing..

So my question..woud you be able to deal with more user prefference settings? like we have to deal in most of the other software? any browser has more prefs settings than ableton live the "full" featured DAW..

or is it better when the keep it the ol way and find settings that suite all instead clogging the preffs with more options?

i'd like more preferences. For example I'd like to hide the little preview-bar under the browser.
It really gets in the way when you're Dj-ing and searching for tracks, it slows down the browsing as it loads every tune into this little preview-player.
Although, I'm already Beatgridding my tunes cause I'm switching to Traktor Pro for Dj-ing :-)

Also, I'd like to have Global-Swing back and a Key-Command-Editor would be great.

+1 on more preferences.
The thing i dream of : make preferences templates. For different musical projects.

logic has this in form of song settings.. within ableton there are not much settings that would make sense there.. the launch related stuff for example... but the switchable syncalgos i wish for would be candidates for song settings aswell

Another vote for more preferences. I'd love to see a pref that let's me define a default soundcard to use whenever it's connected.

I'd like to have an option that Live does NOT install ReWire software components by default.

The launch, the zoom, the midi in/out/remote, the soundcard, etc...

sorry man.. that are program settings and nothing that relates to a song.. your routings are done within the program.. i would see it highly irritating when loading an older song file would render my studio useless

No, i mean, several prefs presets.
When i play live with my main project, it implies a lot of preferences settings. Then when i work on my other project, i got to readjust lots of midi settings, select on launch, zoom, etc.

ok..as long it dont changes with the projekt files and is just a manual selectable preff preset it would be usefull..

i ve similar problems with al the midi offset delays that vary with location and partner

actually you are wright.. that is pretty much getting on my nervs too..
preff prests would be even more beneficial than more of them...

defently something what would suite L9 well.. at least one optional preff set.. mybe life even can store them in seperated files and just have different names for them.. so you only switch between the complete pref files and can move and rearrange them as needed.
that would be nice and probably easy to implement.. at least not much gui work would be necessarry

Would like to see more prefs regarding warp mode.
Separate setting for default warp mode depending on wether I am recording or consolidating or dragging audio from looper.
