Thank you, James Kara. How do you feel about Ableton products?

"As the graph below shows, Android devices outsold both the iPhone and RIM's Blackberry devices between July and August. However, it should be noted that Nielsen's data included only a month when Apple's new iPhone 4 was available."

"Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook told analysts on a conference call that the company would have sold even more had it been able to keep up with demand. Online, iPhone 4s have been on backorder since the device debuted in July. When pressed by an analyst about Apple's supply chain snags, Cook responded that the manufacturing issues have been mostly solved."

"Still, mocoNews brings up another good point – Apple doesn’t have a deal with the largest carrier in the U.S. If a Verizon iPhone were to happen, especially one that is both EV-DO and LTE capable (if those rumored Qualcomm deals are true). Having the iPhone on that enormous network could do wonders for Apple’s market share."

BTW, is it ironic that I'm checking this thread via my iPhone?

I thought your contract was up so you could kick it loose and pursue your "anything but the iPhone" fantasy.

I think the OP might have some suggestions for you.

I can't wait to get an Evo or a Samsung. But truth be told, I like contracts even less than I like Apple. So I'm gonna stick with my 3G for the near future.

But you'll see when you get to NOLA and have no service for no explicable reason. That'll be fun.

Honest question. What's the difference between the Droids and the Androids? Are they part of the same family or does one company think they are being clever and humping the successful leg of another company?

I was trying to help my roommate pick out a new phone but determined if he wanted to have a big boy phone he would have to go with a big boy service provider instead of the one he uses which is one of the providers of preference for drug dealers and poor people.

Droid is a Motorola line of phones that uses Android and is sold by Verizon. Android is an OS, being used by many phones, and every indication is that it will become the premiere OS for mobile devices, be it phone, pad, or netbook.

Plenty of Android choices with cheaper service, using T-Mobile or Sprint. Both run about $30 a month cheaper than AT&T and Verizon.

Incidentally, I just dropped down to the $15 data plan on AT&T, so another reason not to switch anytime soon is that I'm now at a price point, and out of contract, and have a perfectly working smartphone (with an older OS3 that is)...so the practical side of me wins for now...no Android for at least another year.

But if I end up moving to NOLA, where AT&T sucks, I'm gonna go Android and get Sprint, which works very well there.

Thanks for the clarification.

If Android is going to be the premiere OS for portable devices it sounds like it's already a clusterfuck of what will and will not work on the plethora of different devices already out. As always this won't be seen as a downside for PC users…perhaps it will when they realize they can't just make DIY upgrades to their device like you can with a desktop computer.

Visited the Droid site and there's 3 different flavors, all the same price, but optimized for different activities. Jesus, it's a phone, not a housing development. Make one damn phone that is optimized for everything.

^ ha! spoken like an Apple guy. I love that there are multiple options multiple permutations, and a way for me to get it how I like it, not some company telling me how I should like it their way.
