The one and only other time I went to New Orleans was mardi gras week, but that's not why I went. It just happened to be that week. The real reason I went was to meet this chick who ended up ditching me right after she picked me up from the airport and dropped me off at the hotel. I have to say being at the country's biggest known party was quite a comfort in an otherwise ego crushing experience.

Other memories from that trip:

Attempting to drive myself to a club in the rental car and pulling over on the side of the freeway to use one of those police call boxes because I got lost, had no idea where I was, and rain was storming down in sideways sheets. When I got back to the hotel room my friend was laughing his ass off because on the news it was saying you should stay indoors because of tornado warnings. That would also explain why nobody else was really on the road.

The friend I went with had relatives in NO who I ended up hanging out with because of Plan A turned to shit almost immediately. They tried to pimp me out to a bunch of random chicks including the cashiers at McDonalds with the explanation of "Homeboy came all the way out from Cali to hook up with this chick and she straight ditched his ass. So what are you doing later?" Soooo ghetto. And yes I was the whitest of white guys hanging out with a group of all blackest of black dudes. Culture.

Although somewhere out there, there is photo evidence of one of my finer moments on the trip - being the only white face in a sea of black faces "raising the roof" to Dre's California Love outside a bar on Bourbon St. I felt like such the team mascot that weekend.
