Hi, so this is another monitor suggestion thread. I have been producing without monitors for about 1 year now and i really think i need them to bring more to my sound. Also i kind of don't want to play my stuff anywhere cause im afraid of how it will sound since I've only been using the AKG MKII headset for production and from what i hear there is a huge difference in sound.

I've heard that even the best speakers can sound shit in your room if it isn't properly set up for them. But since i dont know shit about that or anyone who does i wouldn't know what to go after. I've been thinking/surfing the net about this for quite a while now and i just want to invest in a pair of monitors. My price range is around 400 - 500 euros.

In advance to clear highs and mids and with your budget I would recommend
Adam A3x.
Later you can buy any solid active subwoofer and you are fine!

Make exceptionally clear monitors. Not quite Genelec brittle though (from what I remember).

KRK and Dynaudio are two other manufacturers I would look at also. I'm sure they do products around your budget, apologies if not.

In any case I would narrow to 3 and listen to all of them.

From what I remember of Genelec is that they are a bit more sharp and not so soft washen in the ups like Adam. but their most advantage is their impulse response. you are able to get the smallest level differences.

in the end your ears will decide. in most cases your money bag will hurt

I've been thinking about this too, ive been producing on headphones for years and think its finally time i got hold of some monitors. I'm in a similar price range and have got to the krk rp5s or the adam a3xs. I'm finding it difficult to find many reviews of the a3xs since they are pretty new.

From the reviews i've read it seems like the Adam A3x really would be a good choice for this price range. They seem to be better then the KRK vxt4 as well. It says that the krk get tiring to listen to after a while. But in the end i guess my ears to the decission.
So if i would go for the Adam a3x i need to get a sub later on? because i would be willing to stretch the budget a bit wider to get the whole package in one.

Before that I was considering getting the Yamaha HS50Ms, until I heard the bass sounded slightly better in the KRKs, because I won't be able to get a sub for a while

FWIW, I prefer KRK VXTS to Adams, although I haven't heard the new enhanced ones and I think Adam are great monitors too. But why should you care what I think?

Try Yamaha, Tannoy, Mackie, Event, JBL, Dynaudio and more too.

i think you'll find KRK's have been scientifically measured to have 30% more bestness than the competition

Well, it's exactly the problem with the KRK... they boosted the lower end. Meaning you ear bass you dont really have in your mix. The yamaha will give you a more honest earing of your mix. And later you can add the matching sub but I would not advice it if your room is not somewhat treated to handle so much bass.

KRK are sweet. Yamaha are raw. painfully raw.

I use my good old m-50 to tweek my lower end. They go down to 30hz.

Can't speak for the OP, but there aren't any music stores around here that have multiple monitors set up for customers to try out, so word-of-mouth based on experience is a close second.

The only one that has any monitors plugged in whatsoever is Guitar Center, and they only have a single pair of Rokit 5's in their DAW-workstation-area setup.
