I would say those are some of it's strengths, yes. Of course with a decent synth, both of those are very possible, and Omni is a good full featured synth without the samples. But there are also lots of cool lo-fi sound sources.Earwax69 wrote:it look cool for mainstream stuff but is it worth the price for music like IDM or something more lo-fi? There is no demo of that big package.

Agreed. It's a shame they put so much emphasis in their marketing about the huge library and the weird samples. The synth aspect of it is one of the best I've ever used, you don't even need to touch the samples to make amazing sounds.

Re: when you use omnisphere
despite how amazing the synthesis engine is, i find myself most blown away by their bizarre hybrid-organic-acoustuc instruments or whatever they call those things. utterly strange yet musical. very inspiring

Cool! I know what to get as early christmas present!!

Just to set the record straight, "they" did not say thatarafel wrote: Trust me, I've discussed this at lengths with spectrasonics and they don't seem to think it's big deal (but more importantly they said it would be too hard to implement with the current code).
Most importantly, he states in his reply we'll consider options for a single filter in the future.
Eric just wanted to make sure nobody misunderstood the value of the link button make the filter, or any other layer processing module, in making it seem like a single processing module. But, don't worry, we'll consider a single filter for a future update.

Glenn, you're not being fair here. I'm going to have to set the record more straight.Glennn wrote:Just to set the record straight, "they" did not say thatarafel wrote: Trust me, I've discussed this at lengths with spectrasonics and they don't seem to think it's big deal (but more importantly they said it would be too hard to implement with the current code).. Eric's reply on nothern sounds points out that would make the instrument more complex to use, and we avoid special case exceptions as a way to make such a powerful instrument simple to use. In the mean time, as he pointed out, a single click to turn on the link button makes your filter and envelope edits act as if they are on a single filter. In other words, you can achieve virtually the same thing already.
In response to the single filter routing suggestion, this was Eric's answer:
and like you said, he also suggests using copy and paste to duplicate the filter settings or using the link button:spectrum wrote:Gonna say no on that one.
Doing that would create some very serious interface problems and it also complicates the engine architecture with no real benefit, since you can already accomplish what you want to do.
But unfortunately he and you are suggesting to do exactly the thing that is the problem - Having to hit the link button constantly and remembering to hit it for filter related parameters and to take it off for non-filter parameters. Or repeatedly having to copy and paste. But this is a dead horse that we don't need to beat right now. It's abundantly clear to anyone that a single switch to send audio from both layers to filter A would be infinitely simpler and quicker than either of those (and this is why almost every dual filter synth plug-in has the option).Simply copy the settings of Layer A's Filter to Layer B's Filter. Can be done very quickly.
No difference in sound and the workflow issues are not really too big of an issue either.
This is one or two clicks...no biggie.
Once you get the hang of when to turn on the Link button, you'll find that it's not a big deal.
Well that is great news! Just the fact that you guys would consider it. I'm sorry but I just went and checked the Omnisphere suggestion thread and I don't see that anywhere. I've never seen this mentioned before. It's always been a simple "no" because (1) It would complicate the interface (which is obviously not the case), and (2) because it would complicate the engine architecture. I took this to mean the audio structure, and therefor the code. This I can completely understand. I'm not the one who would have to do the work and if it's too lofty of a design goal that would be unreasonable to accomplish with the current architecture, I would not complain. Like I've said a million times in this thread and others, Omnisphere is probably my favorite synth regardless of this one thing that could be improved upon.Glennn wrote: Most importantly, he states in his reply we'll consider options for a single filter in the future.

I've always said that Spectrasonics have great support and do listen to their customers and I do always suggest Omnisphere to potential buyers, and I respect that. But I think you were slightly misleading here. I never said anything that needed a record being set straight, everything was pretty accurate on my end. But anyways, that aside, good to see it being thought about.

No problem. The complications Eric is referring to are for our customers, not us. Keeping the architecture clear and explainable is the key to making such a powerful synth simple. But I understand your request and we'll give that serious consideration.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up Glenn. Sorry if I misunderstood anything. I'm sure you can see how "complicates the engine architecture" seems like more of a technical issue rather than user issue, given that "architecture" indicates structure/build.
Anyways, thanks for chiming in.
